I smiled at Zuko as we sat by the turtleduck pond in the palace, watching the turtleducks swim through the water. My father was in a meeting with the fire lord so I was allowed to roam the gardens with the prince. I often came here to the palace with my father, I didn't like being with my father, but I liked to visit Zuko.

"Azari, watch this, my firebending teacher taught me this new thing!" Zuko told me excitedly. Zuko stood up and formed a stance, his face turned stern and I laughed.

I stood up too and shoved Zuko.

"Hey what was that for?!" Zuko shouted, his face going red and angry.

"Stop showing me firebending for once, let's actually do something, aren't you sick of all the training you have to do? Let's have fun!" I took Zuko's hand and helped him up, us two seven year olds hardly ever got to have fun, because of our status we were almost always in lessons on various things.

Zuko tried to look grumpy but failed. He wanted to play just as much as I did, "Okay fine," he said, smiling at me. "But first you have to show me how you waterbend," he challenged.

"Shhh! My mom says that no one's supposed to know about it, not even my dad," I frowned at Zuko. But then I smiled. "But sure, I'll show you waterbending. But then you have to promise we can do something fun."

The two of us sat down again by the pond, we both looked around carefully to make sure no one was watching. Zuko turned his full attention on me as I began to move the water, I pulled it up slowly until I had a ball of water floating in front of me, I tried to concentrate but my ball of water popped and the water splashed into the pond, soaking both Zuko and I.

Zuko and I stared at each other, then we burst out laughing. But the two of them were rudely interrupted by the sound of my father calling my name.

"Azari, come here now!" Zhao shouted. I hated running to him whenever he called but I knew I had to go.

I sighed, "I have to go," I got up and squeezed as much water as I could out of my clothes.

Zuko got up too, "My father must be out of his meeting too, I better go back to my firebending training," he said with a sigh.

The two of us stood awkwardly for a moment but then I hugged Zuko. "Goodbye!" I whispered into his shoulder. "I'll see you later!"

We broke apart and I ran off to find my father, leaving Zuko alone staring after me.

That was the last time I had seen Zuko, because that same day my father had found out I was a waterbender. It was the day that everything went wrong.

I now stood there, six years later, in Zuko's ship. Coincidence? I thought not, but I couldn't just go in there and say hello, for all I knew Zuko would bring me to his father to try to get his father to let him back into the royal family.

The voices on the other side of the door were getting louder, Zuko and whoever else was in there were coming out into the hallway. I needed to go hide somewhere in the ship and come up with a plan, I could not be discovered. I dashed around the corner and right into a guard.

I stopped myself from screaming, "I'm sorry pardon me," I said to the guard.

The guard stared at me quizzically, his helmet was off and he was not much older than I was, maybe sixteen based on his height. "I didn't think any servants were coming along with this ship," he said skeptically.

I froze, kicking myself, of course no servants would be on this ship, Zuko was banished. I had to think fast. "I'm not a servant, I'm a soldier," I mentally groaned, I was a thirteen year old waterbender girl pretending to be a servant pretending to be a soldier. This would never work.

"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to take you to the prince," the guard said, grabbing my arm. "I don't think you're supposed to be here."

My heart sank, I tried to struggle out of the man's grasp but he held me too tightly. "Please, if you let me go I promise I'll leave, I'll swim back to shore or-" but it was too late.

As they rounded the corner I met eyes with the banished prince.

"Azari?!" Zuko said, astounded.

"Hey Zuko," I said weakly.
