"Tomorrow at 9 a.m., I want you in my penthouse," he said.
Upon hearing his command, she abruptly ended the call and prepared to sleep on the sofa bed in the room.
Krishna was predominantly introverted, about 70% of the time. She had faced more pressure in her life than this. Her experiences had taught her harsh lessons at a young age, but they hadn't shattered her spirit. She managed her studies and everything else with resilience. However, dealing with the devil himself had taken a toll on her. She detested drama, and arguments were even worse. Yet, here she was, entangled in both. And today, she had agreed to marry him, which guaranteed even more drama from him and his family in the future.
Sighing, she contemplated the troubling events unfolding in her life. She feared that the future wouldn't be any brighter. With a heavy heart, she closed her eyes and sought much-needed sleep.
The next morning
At 8 a.m., Rakhi arrived with food for them, and Krishna left for the devil's house. The hospital officials readily granted her leave, which came as no surprise given the influential forces at play.
"Corrupted a**holes," she muttered, venting her frustration, and set off for today's battle.
As soon as she reached the building, two bodyguards escorted her to the top floor. They led her to the living room of his extravagant penthouse.
Rudraksh sat on the sofa, facing away with his eyes closed. He heard her footsteps and the door closing, and the bodyguards departed, yet he remained still, eyes shut.
Krishna took a seat on the opposite couch. Her eyes flickered with a fiery determination, but her nerves wracked her in the presence of this man.
"Welcome," he said, opening his piercing gray eyes. He locked his gaze with her intense charcoal eyes. After a few seconds of silent exchange, he continued,
"I wanted you here today to acquaint you with the rules of my family and the obligations you must adhere to as part of this family, especially with me."
Krishna's eyes instantly turned cold upon hearing his words and the way he referred to her as if she were a pet to be trained. She asked sarcastically, "Could you please enlighten me about these rules?"
Rudraksh smirked, amused by his nymph's audacious voice.
He replied, "Rule 1: You must show respect to every family member. Rule 2: You must give up your job. Rule 3: You must refrain from wearing modern clothing. Rule 4: You must wake up early and assist the women of the household. Rule 5: You are forbidden from carrying money. The only funds accessible to you will be provided through a card from me, and all transactions and purchases will be monitored by me. Rule 6: You must not eat without me or before me. Rule 7: You must wash and iron my clothes and have everything prepared before I leave for the office. Rule 8: You must not challenge me; my decisions are final. Rule 9: You must minimize contact with your own family and focus entirely on the family we will build together. Rule 10: You must fulfill all your duties as a wife, including your obligation to satisfy me in bed without any resistance."
Krishna felt an intense urge to hurl something at Rudraksh's face as she listened to his absurd rules. However, she restrained herself and allowed him to finish speaking. Deep down, she knew this family was terrible, but these rules took the madness to a whole new level.
Gathering her courage, she began her response, "Respecting my elders goes without saying. I will not give up my job. My choice of clothing is my own, and I wear what I please. I always wake up early and fulfill my duties as a daughter-in-law, but let it be clear-I am not a slave. We are living in the 21st century, and I don't need your money. I am more than capable of earning it myself. I will eat whenever I want, for I am not a bonded servant. I refuse to be a babysitter, responsible for washing and ironing your clothes. If I were to do that, I might as well tuck you into bed too. I won't argue with you, but then I won't discuss anything with you if you are not ready to even consider my thoughts and views. By marrying you, I would be adding new members to my family, not abandoning the old. They are and will always be my family. I am not ready for children, and lastly, you will not touch me without my consent."
Rudraksh seethed with fury at Krishna's mockery of his beliefs and indirectly his family. Controlling his anger, he rose from his seat and advanced toward her. But Krishna stood her ground, refusing to back down, and looked at Rudraksh with a mixture of disdain and defiance.
