"Oh my God, this is the best thing I have ever seen," Cara squealed as she finished putting chalk in my hair. Thank God it's still so short, or this would have taken much longer. Honestly, I was sure it was going to look shit, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Who knew crappy hair chalk from some random corner shop in Rhoad Island would work so well.
"Do you want me to do yours, Teddy?" I ask hesitantly. This is a big deal, and I'm not going to get him to do something he isn't ready for. Plus, there is a good chance he is going to want to talk to James about it and that Grandpa is definitely asleep by now. Honestly, at thirty, he acts more like a sixty-year-old. "What sort of question is that?" He replied, which instantly had me feeling bad, scared he felt like I was pressuring him, at least I was, until a massive smile crossed his face. He pulled his tank top off, plopping onto the stool excitedly. "I was waiting for you to finish so I could have a go finally. It took you long enough," he bounced in his seat, making me laugh as Cara started on him.
"Why is no one asking if I want mine done?" Mick grumbled, which had the rest of us bursting out into laughter. "There is no straight flag for us to dye into your hair, you bloody moron," Teddy deadpanned, making Cara and I snicker more at Mick's pout. "Oooh, unless there is something you want to tell us, Mick, I always did get a vibe," Cara teased, which had me sitting down on the bathtub as I burst out laughing. The pout on Mick's face makes the whole thing priceless.
"Yeah, well, I feel left out. Andy, come and do something to my hair too," he complained, taking his top off and pouting at me like a moody toddler. "Fine, you big baby," I tease before thinking for a second about what I can do to his hair.
I am now proudly rocking a head of blue, purple and pink, which loosely resembles a bi flag. While Teddy is currently getting the rainbow chalked onto his buzz cut, which looks exactly like it did back in May, his hair is growing at a slug pace. Mick's hair is still a buzz cut too, but he had it cut like that just before we flew out to Kansas.
"What if I make a stencil, and you can have yellow stars in your hair? The yellow for Cora and the stars as a clue towards one of the songs on our next album?" I ask after a moment, although I have no idea if the yellow would come out on his head, so we might just have to do rainbow stars, which Mick would prefer anyhow.
Guess Mick liked the idea since I am now finishing off the last star on his head, a bright blue since the yellow didn't come out on his dirty blond hair. By some miracle, the stencilling worked wonders. Or at least trying to. Usually, Teddy is the group's baby. Still, Mick is currently giving him a run for his money, as he swears dramatically every few seconds claiming that I am pushing too hard on his delicate scalp.
Talk about a drama queen.
"You guys all look amazing," Cara cheers as she finishes up Teddy's hair, sealing the chalk in with a copious amount of hairspray. "Honestly, I should be charging you for my services; I have outdone myself. Maybe I should moonlight as a hairdresser," she teases, making me bite back a laugh as I roll my eyes at her. "You say that every time and yet you never do," I tease.
Cara has been helping me do stupid things to my hair since I was fourteen. For every tour, I put a different colour in my hair, it started because I wanted to be edgy, and I kept going because it was pretty fun. Before I shaved all my head off, I had pink tips. On the tour before that, I had blue highlights. While I always get my hair done professionally, Cara is the only one who has ever dyed it. And while I will never say it to her face, she is pretty good at it.
"Well, how about you moonlight as a photographer and get pictures of us on the beach rocking the new hair so I can post it on Instagram before I wash this out? It's making my scalp itch like crazy," I ask, watching as the three all turn to me instantly, confused and shocked. Honestly, did they think I was just putting the bi flag into my hair for shits and giggles?
