a month has passed since, and heizou's friendship with kunikuzushi solidified,
as well as kazuha's.

the three decided make a group chat.

heizou 🕵️‍♂️: what's up

kazuha: nothing much

heizou 🕵️‍♂️: free for lunch today?

kazuha: yeah the teacher let us off already

heizou 🕵️‍♂️: ...and i guess kuni ain't gonna respond

kuni: who the fuck said so also i am free but pls leave me alone

heizou 🕵️‍♂️: no can do

so it was decided. they would have lunch together. they decided to rendezvous at the rooftop since it's quite secluded and quiet up there. there was also an area with shade and the wind just hit right there.

"hey you two!" heizou pranced towards the already eating kazuha and kunikuzushi. "you guys have no manners. starting without waiting for the host? seriously?" he scoffed jokingly.

"sorry, i just got really hu—"

kunikuzushi placed a hand atop kazuha's mouth. "hunger waits for nobody; your fault you're late."

"tch, no fun!" heizou hopped towards them and made himself comfy.

he observed.

you know why he even hosted this lunch in the first place?

it's 'cause he noticed something fishy between the two across him. the air felt... different. kunikuzushi was right; his friendship with kazuha was kinda weird. they were so sickeningly sweet and considerate towards one another that it crossed the boundaries of mere friends. well, in his standards, at least.

"you want some of my food? i'm not hungry." kunikuzushi said, offering his leftover onigiri that he had already taken a bite out of to kazuha.

heizou thought. if he were kazuha, he'd have rejected the bitten onigiri and throw in a comment or two. well, he was basing this off of his friendship with kunikuzushi, so it wasn't entirely weird that kunikuzushi would treat kazuha differently but—

anyone who knows even a bit about kunikuzushi knows that displays of affection like this were extremely rare, and he was dishing these out left and right towards kazuha. kazuha doesn't even realise how differently he's being treated. he knows he's treated differently, but not to what extent.

kazuha locked eyes with kunikuzushi for a second and took a bite out of the onigiri from kunikuzushi's hand.

what the fuck?

"thanks, but you can finish that." kazuha smiled teasingly. kunikuzushi snorted and just ate the thing.

heizou was watching the two in front of him, wide-eyed. what the hell am i watching?! a low budget rom-com?!

well, at least his hypothesis was proven correct.

when kunikuzushi watched kazuha bite the thing straight from his palm, he blushed. there was an ever-so light pinkish tint scattered across his face and ears. when he had to finish the thing, heizou saw the corners of his mouth curve upwards, and he looked like a high school girl after her crush had done something attractive to her.

yeah, kunikuzushi had a good ol' lil' crush. the guy himself doesn't notice it, though. or maybe he does, but is heavily denying those thoughts.

heizou averted his attention to kazuha. nothing. well shit, he thought, kuni's gonna have to suffer a bit.

taking a bite out of someone's food is well within platonic boundaries for kazuha. he simply does not mind that kind of contact and intimacy, if you could even call it intimate in his own book. mature he acts on the outside, but deep down he's still just a kid craving for excitement.

so, he came to a conclusion, quick. kunikuzushi was the one creating the odd tension, and kazuha was not helping by amplifying the tension unknowingly. he knew this realisation would be rather reality-shattering for kunikuzushi, who's seemed to have never experienced or shown real love before, from the way he acts. so, he plotted out his next move that would be done later in the day after they were confined in their dorm hall—

he'd tell kunikuzushi, straight up, about his observations. he knew the guy was too stubborn to admit his feelings. so he'd push it onto him.

that stubbornness can lead to an overflux of  staggering and messy emotions which might just lead to him lashing out again like he did on their first meeting. that'll do absolutely no good. detective heizou wasn't gonna let that happen again. to save his next victim,

and to save kunikuzushi himself from the stress.
