After the events of the Upside Down, Steve always found himself questioning his worth. His efforts were worth it, sure, but any one of those people in that boat could've done the same thing. Perhaps it was his self destructive bravery, the terror of it all- but was it?

Was it ever bravery, or was it the guilt of not being able to do more? The sting of his parents never thinking he was good enough- the urge to prove himself. Did he really, truly want to die for a cause that wasn't completely his responsibility? Perhaps so, perhaps not.

He wasn't ever so sure. And even when he was face to face with danger, he still wasn't sure. Yes, he'd sacrifice himself in an instant to save his friends- but, did they even need saving?
If he hadn't of attempted another suicide mission, would they of survived?

Was the urge to protect just the urge to die?
He still wasn't sure.
He didn't think that he would ever be sure.
