The handle turned seamlessly, as seamlessly as a old, rusty door handle could get, I was stupid for not grabbing a flash light or a lighter, so I prepared to swing my bat at anything. The door opened and I swung, the figure fell stifle as my bat hit the side of what looked like a person's head, good. It fell to the ground and didn't move, did I kill it? I ran back to my room to get a lighter, carefully running as to not wake up Micha's great slumber, as he called it. I flicked on the lighter before I ran past Micha's room, the yellow light had revealed a person, a human person. This was astonishing to me. Then the panic set it, I just killed a person, I ran over to check the person to see if they were alive, the person looked to be a boy, between 10 and 13. Good god, i just killed a kid, i was mortified at what i just did, i need to know if he's alive or not. I went down and put my hand next to the kid's nose and mouth, he was breathing, that was good, I dragged him inside and through the door frames and set him on the gray loveseat in the living room. I ran to get bandages and gauss from my pack for him, when I came back out of my room Micha was by my door sobbing and struggling to talk.
"Sis! A-are you okay! Who is that!," he said between sobs and hiccups.
" Hey, hey, it's okay, I'm okay, your okay, and I don't know who that is, all I know is he was getting too close to our house," I stated to try to keep him quiet and comfortable as i beckoned him into a hug.
"he's just here because I hit him, I thought he was one of those scary monsters,".
After this Micha calmed down and went to sit on the single, pattern, chair across from the loveseat, he was still hiccuping but no tears fell. I found the wound on the side of this boys head, I can't believe I can hit him that hard, and disinfected it before I wrapped it in gauss. I gave him a spare blanket and pillow before I laid him down.
"Laura, if he wakes up do you think he would be my friend?", Micha said, he always wanted a good friend."If you're nice and help him with his wound, then yes, he could be your friend,".
"What if he doesn't wake up?"
"He'll wake up, I don't think I gave him a bad concussion,".
"Laura, can I wait for him to wake up?".
"No, I'll wait, you need sleep, you're still growing,".
"Okay, but when he wakes up come get me,".
"Alright, I will now come here," I kissed the top of Micha's head "Now goodnight, see you tomorrow,".
After that Micha ran to his room on the right, he's never ran to his room like that with a smile on his face after talking to a friend. I went to sit in Micha's chair after getting up from my crouched position, and I waited waited, I waited all night till morning. Nothing really happened other than a few silent murmurs from the kid in front of me and Micha coming to ask me when our birthday is, which is in 6 months.
When the sun broke dawn, I went to find the time on the generator in Micha's room, it was 6:42 in the morning. Micha wasn't awake yet, even with my scrambling in his room, the kid wasn't awake either. I made us a breakfast of a bowl of cereal for me and Micha, there wasn't milk so I used water, and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. The amount of cereal was less than what I would eat when mom and dad where alive, and we had an abundance of factories making breakfast food, but we still needed to conserve food if we wanted to stay as long as our last place, our last place was few block away from a full grocery store.
Micha came out of his room at 7:14 with a toothy grin. He ate his breakfast cheerfully, and kept glancing at the boy on the couch. I hope they get along together if he woke up, Micha could use a friend, hopefully he doesn't hold a grudge against us because we kinda knocked him out. Sky followed Micha when he was doing his chores of picking up breakfast and switching the kids gauss, and logging our food, she wouldn't leave the living room though, she would wait in the direction of Micha. The boy didn't wake up until much later, around 5:30 PM. When he did he sat up and said "this isn't the camp?".
