Me and Micha had walked for 2 days and finally came across a small town. We had stayed at a gas station on the firt night and under a bridge on the last night so it's a joy to find the town that's on the map. This town had a sign to welcome people in, but it had been painted over with black spray paint with a purple symbol that looked like an M and a W put together in a circle.I had scoped out a light blue house that has full cupboards and a few beautiful blue water jugs. The house has 2 beds one bath and a living room with wood counters, a off white fridge, and a small old wood stove. I covered the windows with plastic bags from the kitchen and locked every door and window from the inside.

"Hey sis, do you think someone lives here?,".

"Come here, I'll teach you something about how to tell if someone is staying someplace or not,".

I had told Micha how if a cupboard that's full has dust on the handle or if there's a noticeable lack of cleanliness.

"How do you know so much about this?" Micha asked.

"I used to have friends that had told me this because they used to be homeless and had to squat frequently,".

"Are those the same friends that mom and dad didn't like?".

"Yeah, I understand why they didn't like them now,".

We had stayed in the separate rooms that night, it was hard for Micha but he complied, he has to learn how to survive if anything where to happen to myself. I had checked the room I was in and found out a girl about my age had lived here. I also found a diary with the name "Clara" on the front in neon pink gel pen. I opened the diary and began reading the first page.

April 25 1998

My name is Clara Barbara and I think the world is going to die. My mom gave me this diary the first day it started and told me to log the days so I don't forget.  One of those things came around today and followed me to the store. I tried to kill it with some if the other people around here but it ran away?

I decided to read the rest at a different time  and i was already tired by now so I put the diary in my pack to read when I can. I try to lay down on the quilted bed to sleep and I was trying not to think about the outside but as soon as I close my eyes I hear a Crack of a branch outside. Still dizzy from tiredness, I get up. I should probably check the house and property before I try to fall asleep again. I grabbed my bat off the floor and went out into the hall. In the hall it was dark and the shadows that where made by the moon light faded to absolute light. The end of the hall, where my brother was staying, was the lightened end with a shadow that crept past the back door window. I froze from fear and my adrenaline started pumping. The shadows were next to my brothers room, I had to help him.

I ran into a short sprint to his door and creaked it open to make sure he was okay. Preparing myself for the worst, I opened the door with a less desired creek, and Micha was still there, sleeping soundly, mouth slightly ajar. Continuing down the hall was frightening from the creaking of floorboards.

The shadow at the door had not moved but instead stared at me, I couldn't see any eyes but I knew it was staring at me. Walking up to the beaten, used door, I was terrified of the thing outside, but needed to keep my brother safe. The handle was cold and smooth as it turned. Myself, scared and brave, both not making sense, turned the handle, whatever was outside would be my problem now.
