Anything passed Part 27; Quitting Again

Will be a different and more edited version of the story.

Two words I'm already dreading: new school. I moved from Miygai, where I spent most of my childhood, to Tokyo. Transitioning from the countryside to a big city is a challenging change. Everything is so fast-paced, and the towering buildings make me feel small. Since moving, I've only met a few people in my grade: Momoi Satsuki and Aomine Daiki. They both attend my new school, Teiko Junior High.

Momoi is my next-door neighbor, and Aomine is her best friend. I hear a lot about him from Momoi's enthusiastic rants. She's been trying to convince me to become the second manager of the boys' basketball team. I'm hesitant because I don't know how long we'll be here, but I need something to fill my time, so maybe I will join her.

The first day at a new school was filled with boring introductions. I always hate the first day of school, standing in front of the class, feeling everyone's eyes on me. Today is my fifth day, and Momoi is still begging me to be a manager. As I walk on campus, heads turn because I'm still 'The New Kid.' It's a weird feeling, being the center of attention. Momoi spots me and rushes over with a sheet of paper in her hands—an application for a club, no doubt.

"Sawamura-chan!" She waves me down. "Look what I got!" She smiles brightly, handing me the application.

I smile, "Is this your way of saying you really want me as your second manager?" She nods enthusiastically. "I guess I'll be your second manager, Momoi-chan."

She jumps into my arms, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Yeah, yeah," I say, letting go of her and heading to class.

"You're going to help me with the first string because we have a big team," She explains as we walk to our homework. "We have eight players at the moment, so you'll meet a bunch of people today!"

"Sounds like fun," I groan.

"You'll get through it, Sawamura-chan. Plus, it won't be that bad, I promise."

"I just want to get the introductions out of the way," I say, putting my arm around her shoulder. I know we'll be good friends no matter how long I'm here.

"Yeah, I can tell but that's alright. You've got me to get you through it!" she says as we reach our classmates.

Timeskip~

Eight hours later, school is finally over. Now I have to meet the basketball team, and Momoi is making me meet her there because our teacher needed something from her. I walk to the gym where Momoi showed me lunch. The gym is enormous, echoing with the sound of bouncing balls and sneakers squeaking on the floor. I take a deep breath before heading in. Once inside, I see Aomine, which means I'm not really alone. I wave to Aomine, and he smiles.

"Hey, Sawamura-chan!" He waves me over. "Are you here to be our second manager?" I nod. He puts his arm around my shoulder. "Hey everyone, I'd like to introduce someone!"

He gains the attention of several guys. "This is Sawamura-chan. She's going to be our second manager!" He points to two guys. "These are our captains, Nijimura Shuzo, and Akashi Seijuro. They are Murasakibara Atsushi, Midorima Shintaro, Kubota Masaya, Sekiguchi Toru, and Haizaki Shogo."

I wave. "I'm Sawamura Y/n from Miyagi Prefecture. Nice to meet you all."

"It's great to have you, Sawamura-san!" Nijimura says, waving.

"Anyways, where is Satsuki?" Aomine asks.

I shrug. "Our teacher asked her to do something, so she said to meet her here."

The boys start to introduce themselves one by one. Nijimura is the first, offering a firm handshake and a warm smile. "I hope you enjoy being with us, Sawamura-san."

Next is Akashi, who gives a polite nod. "We're glad to have you."

The towering Murasakibara greets me with a lazy wave. "Hey."

Midorima pushes up his glasses and offers a curt nod. "Welcome."

Kubota and Sekiguchi both smile and give enthusiastic greetings. "Nice to meet you!"

Haizaki smirks, "Welcome to the team, Chibi-chan."

Everything was fine until the door slammed open, and Momoi walked in with her bright smile as always.

"Sawamura-chan, you're here!" She shouts, jumping to hug me.

"Momoi-chan, what took you so long?" I ask, but she changes the subject, asking for my application.

I hand it to her, and she beams. "Thank you! Now, let's get you started. We have a lot to do, and the first game of the season is coming up soon."

The rest of the practice session is spent learning the ropes. Momoi shows me how to keep track of stats, manage equipment, and ensure the players stay hydrated. It's a lot to take in, but her enthusiasm is contagious. By the end of the day, I feel a bit more comfortable with my new role.

As practice ends, Momoi, Aomine, and I walk home together. The sun is setting, casting a warm glow over the city. We chat about the team, upcoming games, and random things to pass the time.

"Hey, Sawamura-chan," Aomine says, glancing at me. "How are you settling in? Is Tokyo treating you well?"

I think for a moment. "It's different, that's for sure. But having you guys around makes it easier."

Momoi grins, bumping her shoulder against mine. "See? I told you we'd be friends. And now, you're part of the team too!"

Aomine nods. "Yeah, we're glad to have you. Just wait until you see us play. It's going to be epic."

I smile, feeling a bit more at ease. "I'm looking forward to it."

As we reach our street, I suddenly remember something that's been bothering me. "Hey, did you guys notice Haizaki staring at me almost the whole practice?"

Momoi's smile fades a bit. "Haizaki can be...difficult. He's known to be mean and aggressive. And he doesn't have a good reputation with girls."

Aomine nods, his expression darkening. "He thinks girls are objects and treats them like that. Just stay away from him as much as you can."

I feel a shiver run down my spine. "Thanks for the warning. I'll be careful."

Momoi puts a comforting hand on my shoulder. "We just want you to be safe. If he ever bothers you, let us know, okay?"

I nod, grateful for their concern. "I will. Thanks, you guys."

As we walk further, the conversation shifts to lighter topics. We laugh and joke about school and the team's quirks.

"Remember, if you ever feel overwhelmed, just come to us," Momoi says with a reassuring smile.

Aomine chuckles. "Yeah, we'll take care of you. After all, you're one of us now."

As we reach our homes, Momoi and Aomine wave goodbye, heading to their respective houses. I watch them go, feeling a sense of belonging. Maybe this new school and city won't be so bad after all, especially with friends like them looking out for me.
