"and you look amused, eh?" Lottie asked her annoyingly, both hands on her hips. "gosh, Alastaire Mavricque Marfa. you came from the lineage of seasoned politicians and heroes, not vagabonds and scavengers! how about you act like one of them for once and clean this room of yours? that'd be awesome, don't you think?"
Alas sighed and groaned boredly, pouting her mouth as she sluggishly stand up to clean her room up, before Carlotta continues to beat her up with her lineage of whatnot politicians, etc.
that lineage is the thing that weighs her down like a huge boulder resting upon her shoulders. it's not that she's not proud of her family or the clan where she came from.
Her great-grandfather, former General Gaudencio Agham, was hailed as Sta. Imelda's local town hero and its founder. He was an outstanding military man with a stellar performance up to his retirement and was honored by the AFP even if he passed away fifteen years ago. her grandfather, Luis and father Lorenzo were also former military men who also have a legacy of their own to be proud of. and what made them more prominent was that after their successful career, they ventured to another one that cemented them even more on societies map---they both ran for public office and won.
her grandpa Luis chose to go for a national position in the 90's and early 2000's and became a Senator for 12 years and eventually voted as Senate President. the old man only stopped running for public office when he got diagnosed of prostate cancer years ago. her father, Lorenzo on the other hand is the current incumbent local chief executive of the town her great-grandfather founded.
while it may seem to others that being born into an old money clan is the most brilliant thing in the world because of a wealthy, affluent life--- well, they can keep that opinion to themselves. because for Alastaire, it's more like a burden--- a curse even. Yes, the privileges are there. they have servants at their beck and call, the excess of money to spend on things they want.
but that's the thing that she never wanted. what is wealth and power anyway, if she's caged like a circus showbird and those people, her family--- has a strong hold of her life, like she's some kind of a chained slave? everything in her life the moment she's born was decided by her parents. she never had a say on anything for if she dared to stand-up for her right to choose, two things happens: it's either she got a real hard truth slap across her face, or she'll be disowned. for good.
she heaved a tired, pointless sigh as she mindlessly sat on the floor, looking at the wall. a terrifying reality suddenly hit her about the things her family can do the moment they found out the secret she kept inside her for so long now.
she bit her lower lip. no, she'd rather die than being ousted from society because of her queerness. she doesn't want to be ridiculed, she doesn't want to be left alone and get mocked because of her hidden identity---because of her nasty, dirty little secret.....
