Alya's point of view.I wear my jewelry by the mirror when I notice Falah getting out of the shower. He sits on the bed, thinking about something. I'm practically ready so the only thing holding me back is Rashad.
There's a little get together tonight for the closest people to the couple. Falah falls into that category and I'm his wife. I tie my simple head tie, making it casual and nice.
"Falah, we're going to get late. You need to get ready." I remind him as he stands up. He stays getting ready as I sit on the sofa while I chat Rayyan about finding a new great lead and how I'll get a huge bonus.
I keep my phone, feeling exhausted of using it. "Shall we?" Falah asks as I turn to see him. He wears a cream shirt and shorts set with a green slim stripe from his collar to the end of the shorts.
I walk to him, attempting to adjust his collar but I can't reach. He sits down without me having to say anything. "Thank you." I keep my bag before straightening his collar more.
Everything else seems to be perfect. I need everything to be perfect so it doesn't seem forced and unbelievable. The fact that I'm the wife of her husband's best friend and cousin immediately puts me in a good position.
"That's that. We should hurry, we don't want to keep them waiting." I take the bag and we leave the room. He locks the door as we start walking together side by side.
I reach for his hand, holding it in mine. I don't look at him because I know exactly the facial expression I'll get from him. He holds my hand tightly, practically making my hand disappear.
"Could we act like we're a good and normal couple?"
"Sure."
"Thanks."
We get to the venue without saying a word to each other but the minute we enter the hall, our faces lit up. I smile weakly, slightly leaning on him.
I see a lot of people looking at us. "Falah. Alya." I hear someone call my name and I turn to see Seyi walking towards us. Falah meets him halfway as they laugh, shaking hands. "Long time, where have you been?"
"Working, you know people have things to do other than party." Falah says and Seyi bursts out laughing. "Ashawo, you of all people, you taught me that life."
"Ah! We learnt it together, there's a difference." Falah defends himself and they erupt into laughter again. "Anyways, Seyi, this is my wife Alya khaldoun." Falah formally introduces us and Seyi grins when he sees me.
"Alya, you're looking terrific. It's great to see you here and to see you again. Thank you for coming." I shake my head, smiling.
"You're welcome, congrats to the groom. How are you feeling?"
"Happy, excited, anxious, love struck, impatient and lucky." He describes making me jealous. "Well, she's lucky to have you."
"I'm lucky to have her, she's the best thing that happened to me." I start feeling emotional after hearing it. "That's so sweet, you're meant for each other. I wish you the best and for you to live in peace and harmony forever."
He grins widely. "If you weren't his wife, I would've hugged you right now." Falah stands beside me, sliding his hand on my waist and pulling me a bit closer to him. "I wasn't really going to do it, your jealousy is remarkable." He says and we chuckle. I look at Falah and he looks back at me.
After what Seyi said, I'm angry at him. I wish I could've found someone to say these nice things to me. Someone who really meant it but instead I'm acting with my husband because there's no way I'm falling for a guy that didn't care about my opinion on our marriage.
He leans in, placing a light kiss on my lips. I could feel goosebumps all over my body but I conceal it. He pulls away as I use my hand to wipe the lipgloss that is by the corner of his lips. "You still can't get enough of each other." Seyi says and I shake my head.
"Nope." I place my arm on his back. "I hope for me and my wife to be as inseparable as you are."
"No, I wish you more."
"Then I'll be obsessed with her."
"Everybody is a bit obsessed but this isn't about us, it's about you. Just like father said to me, take care of her, protect her and do everything she asks for if it makes her happy." I smile, leaning on Falah's body. "I will, thank you brother. I appreciate you so much." Falah pulls away from my embrace and hugs Seyi.
"Now go to your wife and give her tons of compliments and attention." He nods, walking away. Falah smiles as he watched Seyi leave. He scoffs, shaking his head. "Seyi is getting married." He mutters, reminding himself.
"Let's go get our seats." I hold his hand, walking to the reserved table. "Falah." I hear sultana's voice as I turn to see her looking magnificent. She wore a golden silk dress with her hair pulled back to a bun. Her makeup, accessories and shoes were great.
I dressed too casually. I subtly look at my clothes again then back at her walking towards us. Falah pulls his hand away, facing her. They're smiling and looking at each other like they didn't come here together.
"You look great." Falah compliments and she giggles. "Thank you. If you know the hassle I had to go through before getting this dress and the hair...women are trying." She rolls her eyes, both of them acting like I don't exist.
I walk to the table, taking a seat. It's not like I'm jealous or anything because I've seen how they were flirting and all on our drive here. If I wasn't there, I know they would've parked the car somewhere and screwed themselves.
I mean, I didn't get a single compliment. Once, fine but twice, no. "Hey." A woman says sitting beside me and I turn to see zulaika. "Hi." I act like she's a stranger.
"You shouldn't worry about that, men are sometimes like that. They make you feel transparent and I'm going to confess, you see the groom, he treats me that way sometimes."
"Seyi? He practically worships you." She shrugs. "I know that and that's one of the reasons I live him but they just do that. Falah is a good guy, I assure you he hasn't realized what he's doing."
I nod, looking at them talk. Thank you so much for talking, I've gotten a first class seat to friendship. "You think?"
"I know even though I have to confess, she doesn't look good. You look great but she's beating you at it." I chuckle at her sincerity. "I noticed that."
"But every sensible woman is rooting for you. Sorry, I'm zulaika. You are Alya, I've heard a lot about you two from Seyi." I smile as she holds my hand in hers. "Trust Seyi. It's nice to finally meet the famous Queen of Seyi."
She smiles, standing up. "Good to know, we'll talk later, Ally." I furrow my brows. "Ally?" She laughs softly. "I don't know why I said that but it felt right."
"Sure." She pats my shoulder before walking away. I smile, shaking my foot. A man sits on the chair zulaika sat, staring at me. I don't bother to look at him, instead, I look at the piano performance. "Can I help you?"
"I just wanted to finally meet the famous wife of my brother Falah." I turn to look at the chubby man. I hate this. "Are you a relative or friend?" I relax my once stoic face. My question makes him laugh.
"I understand having to be wondering who his relatives and friends are but...". He turns back to look at him conversing with sultana still. I feel anger growing in me towards Falah for embarrassing me.
"He's too occupied to differentiate it for you." He turns back, smiling at me and I smile weakly at him. "Family or friend? Which one do you fall under?"
"What if I say friend?" I roll my eyes, taking my purse. "I guess you have enough time to decide which one you are." I stand up, walking out of the hall. I'm not going ti stay a minute more to receive more from people.
