Gage
She sat there in my car again once again. Looking out the passenger side window with her golden hair flowing like a sunny riptide going down her back. She turned back and smiled at me, I wanted her to remember me. She knew who I was without knowing us. If I could switch our places so that she could remember. That she could remember us, and all of our memories, and I was in her place because I would. Because I could never forget her. I could never forget her, my heart could never not know her touch, her voice, her eyes. She became my muse, my reason to breathe air. She was everything to me.
We got out of the car and started up to the faris wheel, She looked around and shot back at me. "Gage, this is amazing! When did it get so fancy?"
"I don't know," I looked around, garden lights and photo booths were set up, food stands filled with funnel cakes, corn dogs lemon-aid shake ups that are way too surgery for anyone's own good. I grabbed her hand and led her through the crowd. We passed people I knew and people I didn't. I brought her to the end of the boardwalk. I leaned against the white fence and she was laughing, she pointed and laughed. "What? What's so funny?"
"Look" she blurted out between gasp of giggles. I turned around to see a short guy swatting at a large bird overhead. The bird was trying to attack him. I turned back so he wouldn't see me laugh. Once our laughter died down, I went back to leaning on the fence. She mirrored me.
"You know, we have our own cabin on the ferris wheel?" I turned still resting on the fence, that one right there, I pointed up to a green and red cabin with painted graffiti flowers on the roof.
Her face lit up "Really?" I nodded, "Then let's go, what are we waiting for?"
She grabbed my hand and ran off to the wheel. Her hand in mine she ran to the attraction, no one was waiting in line it was just us. I looked up at our cabin as it slowly spun down to us. The attendant was paying no attention so I walked up the black carpeted stairs and opened the door letting Nadia in. She stopped, her face frozen on the seat. "Gage." She barely managed to get my name out. She walked up and got into the cabin. When I turned to look at her she was holding a red envelope. "Gage how did-" I rushed into the cabin and locked the door. Just as I did it took off.
There was another letter on my seat, we both sat and looked up at each other. " Do we open them?
Before I could finish she had already opened the letter and had started reading. When we were still looking for her family she would always be the first to open the letters, or to find a clue. She always lit up when she got a memory or a piece from her family, especially her father. I followed her lead and opened mine. Only nothing could prepare me for this letter. As soon as I opened it my sister's necklace fell out. She would never take it off voluntarily. That was the necklace mother gave her. It meant the world to her. My heart dropped. The world faded, if these people had my sister that would change everything. They were no longer just messing with Nadia, they were messing with me and my sister now.I bent over to pick Eden's necklace, I held the golden chain deep in my fist while I read the letter.
" Dear Brother, I know you and Nadia are looking for her family. They are all here, they all are safe for now. I need help, brother. I know we haven't gotten along much, I know we've had our fights and arguments. I know you left for a reason. I know how mom and dad treated you but now it's me. It's me who needs your help Gabriel. We all do, you and Nadia are our last hope. From one Sullivan to another? Your big sister, Eden"
'One Sullivan to another' the words replayed in my head.
"You nasty little prick." The curly haired monster threw a box full of my stuff out onto me. I put my arms up to block the box. It fell onto my stomach making me cry out. "Don't ever come back. You have done nothing but cause more and more problems since you've gotten here. Do all of us a favor and go kill yourself." I looked down at my foot, it had started to bruise already. My peachy white skin was now black and purple. I could see the burn marks on my leg going up to my thigh. I looked back up to see my sister now being joined with my parents. My father threw an old scrapy brown wallet that had no more than fifteen dollars down to the grown next to me.
"Get a job. Bring something to our name, then we'll talk." He turned around and left the door frame.
"Oh and Gabriel?" My sister jumped down the steps to stand in front of me. "One last thing before you go? Here's a gift. One Sullivan to another." She stepped on my foot, crushing the bones as she kept stomping. She broke out into a laugh as her and mother went back inside slamming the door. Leaving me out in the dark.
"Gage.." I looked up from the letter, Nadia was shaking, she held her letter in her hands. "They have.." she started crying. I got out of my seat to go to hers. I put my arm around her and took the letter. I scanned the letter over.
"We need to go." I said she didn't move, she just kept shaking. "Bee, look at me this is nothing we can't deal with. It's us, the dream team. We're getting your family back alright? Even so they could be lying about Donny" She looked up at me and nodded.
"Okay then let's get out of here." The cabin pulled to a stop back at the bottom. The attendant came over and opened the door letting us out. We rushed back to the car, my phone starting ringing as Nadia jumped. "It's just my phone, don't worry." I looked down at the screen and it was Elijah, I put the car in drive and took off. Finding Nadia's family was first, Eden could wait.
