Hi, my name's Tanaka Akari!
I'm a regular fifteen-year-old high school student. And this is my story on how I became the Misu Batafurai and saved the world. It's not like every other superhero story, so stick around and get ready...

It was an early April morning, the beginning of my new school year. It was a chilly morning, so I made sure I brought my scarf with me to wear on my commute to school. I walked down my stairs in my average-sized home. I said goodbye to my parents and slipped on my shoes. looking into the mirror on the way out. I had chin-length cherry blossom pink hair. I also had round glasses with my cornflower blue eyes behind them. I tied my scarf around my shoulders and walked out the door.

Holding my school bag, I looked around the usual neighborhood. Not many people around this early in the morning. I lived close enough to school so I could just walk; I didn't have to take the train. Most of the cherry blossom trees were starting to bloom and had little buds on them. The closer I got to the school, there were many other students walking through the gates. They were all together with their friends. Talking and laughing.

I wish I had friends like that. Too bad I came from another city, so I didn't know anyone from previous grades.

I sighed and continued walking.

I made it to my locker and put my scarf and shoes away and switched them out for my indoor shoes. I grabbed my bag and made my way to class. Nothing better to do. I walked through the doors to my classroom. It was empty.

Oh good, I get first dibs on where to sit.

I took the middle second to front row.

I'm not going to be one of those regular anime protagonists who sits right by the windows, plus my eyesight isn't so good.

I sat down and put my stuff away. I got out my phone and put in some earbuds and listened to music. It's not that I wanted to block out the world, to not talk or socialize with anyone. I had to get the sheet music and lyrics memorized by Sunday. I play with the band in my parents church. I sang and played the piano.

I would totally take them out if anyone talked to me. But I guess I did look like I was minding my own business

And who would want to talk to the weird new girl with pink hair? I just can't win no matter what...

Later on, some more kids came in and sat down, goofing off with their friends. Then a delinquent-looking boy with messy black hair and piercings came in. I glanced at him. He had no expression on his face. He looked at me, and I quickly looked away.

Sheesh, I would not want to piss him off. Hopefully I don't get bullied here.

He continued to walk by with his hands in his pockets and sat down at the very back of the class. Then the bell rang and the teacher came in. And the rest of the day went by as normal. Boring classes. I sat alone at lunch. My only elective was music, so that was the only thing I enjoyed. I saw the EMO boy again in that class. And then more boring classes... At the end of the day, the bell rang, and everyone got up to leave.

Oh yeah, that's right, my parents told me something before I left this morning.

I took out some fliers from my bag and got up to go hang them up in the hallways...

Earlier that morning...

"Hey sweetie, I bet you could make some friends from school if they would come to our church!" My mom said with a big smile.

"Yeah, wouldn't you like some kids your age to come around? We could start a youth group. It's mostly all old people right now." My dad said ruffling my hair.

"What, no! I would be an outcast if anyone saw me do that." I protested.

"I don't think so. They would probably just ignore it and look the other way. Only the cool kids would pay attention to it." My dad told me.

"Yeah, we could put so much cool stuff on there for you youngins! Youth group, trips, the worship team. I know so many young kids nowadays love music; they could write their own songs, and we could sing it." My mom stated.

"Well, that sounds cool to me. But I'm not sure what everyone else would think." I told them.

"Who cares what they think. Just be you! Show them what you love." My mom and dad both said, smiling at me.

I look back up. "Okay, alright, I'll do it."

Back to the present...

I had a smile on my face, thinking back to that moment.

Wouldn't that be cool—all these creative kids making such cool art for our church? Maybe I could have friends...

I put a pin in the corners of the poster and moved on to the next board. A lot of kids were walking by; no one was really looking at it. I went up a flight of stairs and started putting posters up on that floor as well. It was completely deserted on the second floor.

Hmm, everyone must have left already.

I looked back and focused on my work. But then somebody leaned on the wall right next to the poster, kind of close to me.

"Whatcha hangin up there, girly?" A boy's voice says.

I shrink back, kind of startled, and I move away.

I nervously laughed. "Oh, it's just some fliers for my parents church. We're going to start a youth group, so they wanted some kids to join from my school."

He was tall and had red hair with long bangs, he had an angry look on his face. His purple eyes glared at the poster.

"Oh, so it's a Christian church. Pff, that's so stupid. You really think kids our age believe in that crap? I don't think you should be hanging up your beliefs in other people's faces." His fingers wrapped around the paper and ripped it off.

"Hey, don't do that!" I went to grab the paper out of his hands.

But he was too quick. He grabbed both my hands.

"Or else what? You gonna cry?" He sneered.

But then suddenly a loud bang came from out of nowhere. I felt a shadow over me. I turn around to look behind me.
It was the tall emo boy. He slammed his arm on the wall and was leaning over me. Staring at the boy with red hair, but he still didn't have an expression on his face.

"Hand it over." He said, blankly.

The guy let go of my hands.

"Hey whatever man, I wasn't gonna do nothin. I was just kidding around." He tossed the paper back at the boy behind me and walked away.

The black-haired boy caught the balled up paper. He unfolded it and read it.
I backed away from him and let out a sigh.

"Um, thank you. I don't know what would have happened if you didn't show up, heh. I don't know what I would have done. That was very kind of you." I stuttered out.

He lowers the paper and looks at me. "No problem."

He hands the paper back to me. "Oh, thanks..."

I grab the paper, and the boy starts to walk away.

"Wait, before you go. I saw that you read it; what do you think?" I ask him.

"It sounds cool; I might show up." He gave a shrug.

"Oh, that's great! Here, take this then. It has the time and address on it." I hand him a small business card.

He looks at the card, reading it, then puts it away in his pocket.

"See you around." He turns and walks away.

I stand and stare as he walks off, my face blank.

Sheesh, I can't tell what he's thinking.
How would I even be able to tell if he has a problem with me?

Does he really even want to go?

Well, as long as I possibly got one person to come, that's good enough. I look down at the stack of papers that I still had.
I don't really feel like hanging up the rest after what happened. I put them away in my bag and go to my locker to get my stuff to leave for the day.

On my way home, I see a flash of something blue dash across the sidewalk and into the bushes.

Huh, that was weird. What type of animal is blue?

I walk over and peer in.

Nothing... Oh well, maybe it was someone's pet.

I stand up and keep walking. I make it back home; my mom was in the kitchen making food. I set my bag down at the table.

"Hey sweetie, how was school?" My mom asks, not turning away from what she was doing.

"Uuuuuugggggggghh." I shove my face in my arms and slam my head on the table.

My mom looked shocked. "Oh wow, was it really that bad?" She turned to look at me.

I look back up from the spot I was sitting at.

"No, it was okay, pretty boring. I think I got one person to go to our church Sunday... But don't make me hang up anymore of those posters at my school, pleeeeeease."

"Well, that's good... I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. Maybe we can just hang them up around town." My mom smiled.

"Heh, so no one has to judge me anymore." I force a laugh as I get up from the table.

I go up to my bedroom and look out the window at the city. It was off in the distance, all lit up for the night. It looked so pretty. I sat down by my window, thinking.

I wonder what that boy's name was that saved me...
