Summary:

Phantom has big shoes to fill when Aether announces his departure. He feels like he shouldnt be there. He does a small mistake and Rain comforts him.

Being a new summon, Phantom felt like he didn't really belong. Aether had been in the band for over 5 years, all the other ghouls loved him and were heartbroken when they heard he was no longer touring with them. Unfortunately, some took it out on him. Papa was proud that he summoned his first quintessence ghoul, but Phantom still felt unwanted. Every time Aether had a practice session with him hed cancel last minute every time. The ghoulettes hung out together and excepted Aurora real quick. Why did the ghouls not accept him? Mountain was quiet, Rain was shy, Sodo hadn't talked to anyone since he heard about Aethers departure from the band. And Swiss, he was worried for his best friend. Only he was allowed in his room. Swiss cleaned it every day, Sodo was breaking everything he could trying to release his anger.

Phantom tried to spend time with them hoping he'd belong. But that feeling never happened. No one would listen to him speak when he tried and he was left out during the conversations. He even tried speaking a little louder thinking that his new bandmates couldn't hear him. And every time he'd be told to stop shouting.

He would go to the practice room without Aether to practice. The tour was getting closer and he couldnt wait forever. He looked through the room and found the binder where Aether kept all his tabs and little notes. Every day he'd get the guitar and the binder and start practicing. After a week he thought it sounded pretty good. He barely ever played with the others since he didn't know the songs as well when they practiced for the show.

{Time skip to the tour }

Phantom entered the bus last and got the last pick on which bunk he had, his bunk was under Aurora across from Rain and Sodo's bunk. He would have loved a top bunk but all the Ghoulettes got them first. Every night on their way to Rouen, Phantom would close his privacy curtain, turn on a flashlight, and would practice the fingering and picking of each song. (no guitars on the bus itself).

The day finally arrived. His first show. He was really nervous but felt good at the same time. His practice sessions are finally gonna pay off. He was feeling really confident. He felt like he belonged on the stage. For the first time that he has been on earth, he felt wanted and loved. During the solo of square hammer things didn't go as he planned. He messed up. He did try to brush it off though, but it actually bothered him all night.

He wasn't worthy to be part of the band, maybe that's why the other ghouls didn't get close to him. They knew from the beginning that he wouldn't be good enough. Once the show ended he stormed immediately to his changing room slamming the door shut and throwing his mask on the floor. Rain took notice of this and when to check up on the newer band member. He gives a light knock on the door before entering. Once inside he finds Phantom on the floor in a fetal position. Phantoms clothes were half taken off half still on. Rain remembers the struggle with the uniforms during his first tour. "Phantom?" Rain called out gently, it was the first time one of the ghouls started a proper conversation with him. He lifts his head up a bit to look at Rain. His mask was also off and Phantom could see the concern on his face. Embarrassed by his tear-stained face and bloodshot eyes, he brings his face back to his knees crying even harder than he was before Rain came in. Rain panicked at the reaction thinking he did something wrong and he started apologizing. "Shut up!" Phantom told Rain with sadness but also a bit of anger in his tone. The bassist made his way to the door quickly but Phantom interrupted him "I didn't ask you to leave, I just wanted you to stop apologizing." Rain turns back and sits on the ground next to Phantom.

"Uniforms can be a pain sometimes. I remember my first ritual. I couldnt get dressed, I had Aether put on my uniform. I also struggled to take it off. Aether helped me again. I can help you take it off for a bit if youd like. Youll get the hang of it eventually." Rain just talked and Phantom lifted his head from his knees and looked at him. All he could do was hum to the water ghouls offer. He sat up facing Rain. He stopped crying but still looked sad. Rain started to help the quintessence ghoul get out of the uniform. "You did well out there," He said while taking the shirt off of the younger ghoul. "You don't need to lie, I messed up really badly. I shouldn't be here. I'm not good enough. It's not like you'd care if-" Phantom began to vent out all of his feelings to Rain but got interrupted but a long kiss. Once done Phantom didn't know what to say, why did he care all of a sudden? "You're completely wrong. You improved so much since you got here. You're doing everything just right. I've seen you practice every day. I saw Aethers binder in your bed. You're too hard on yourself. You belong here trust me. It's just Sodo doesn't really like change, but he'll warm up to you-" Phantom chuckled a little at the unintended pun Rain just made. "What?! Its the truth." The water ghoul responded. "But seriously, we don't hate you, were just so used to Aether and most of us didn't know how to react. I don't want you to feel unwelcome. I was really nervous when you showed up. I liked you from the beginning if that helps. I just didn't know how to talk to you." Rain zoned out while saying it not realizing that Phantom was crawling into his lap. "I'm glad you talked to me, umm I don't really know how to say this. The thing you did. Can we do it again? It made me happy and comfortable." Phantom asked but immediately regretted it once he saw the confusion on his companions face. "Changing uniforms?" Questioned the water ghoul completely oblivious. "No! The lip-touching thing, it gave me butterflies and made me feel warm. I want that again." Whined the young ghoul. Rain put his hand on his cheek and kissed him again. This time more passionate and heated. "Yo" Swiss walks in on the scene. Phantom straddling Rain shirtless. "Holy Shit! HAHAHAHA! Phantom and Rain are about to fuck, HAHAHAHA! Y'all cant wait till we get to the hotel?" Swiss couldn't stop laughing. He didn't expect Rain to do that there. "Fuck you man! You ruined the moment." Phantom told him kinda pissed off. Swiss turnaround and shares the news with everyone. "Rain and Phantom are officially a thing, I almost walked in on the special moment!" Swiss shouted. This caught Sodo's attention. "Rain and Phantom Kissing in a Tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G.. " Chanted the multi and fire ghoul "SHUT UP!" Phantom yelled from his changing room. Rain laughed a bit before tangling his fingers the quintessence ghouls hair. He kissed him between his horns before bringing the ghouls head to rest it on his shoulder. "I think what you were looking for earlier was I love you. If thats the case, I love you too." Rain told the ghoul who was purring really loudly. He was truly happy in his partners arms, he felt like he was now a part of the group now. Swiss and Sodo would tease him. Every time Rain and Phantom would do something together Cumulus was ready with a camera in hand. They actually got to know him for a while and he felt like he belonged with his packmates. Rain helped him feel better in every way possible. He couldn't be more grateful to call Rain his partner.
