Leahs pov

Hold up. Wait a minute. Daughter? Does she mean dog? Because I refer to my dog as my daughter. I hope she means for a dog. I know some people who are overly obsessed with their dogs.

The waitress comes over asking about drinks. "Anything fruity with a little bit of alcohol." I said. "Oh, there's this public favorite called ma-" I cut her off. "That one please." I said with a big smile.

"And for your date?" She asks. "It's not- she's-I don't know. A water?" I stutter. "Okay, I'll be back with that shortly." She says and walks away.

Oh my god. I am so bad under pressure.

She comes back with the drinks and I immediately sip mine until it's half full.

A couple minutes later Jennifer comes back with a smile. "Sorry about that." She says and sits in front of me. "Don't worry about it." I force a smile.

"Ouu thank you! I wanted water." She smiled and takes from her cup.

I wanted to ask her about the whole daughter thing. I don't know if she meant to slip that out or what.

"So..." I start. She looks up at me and tilts her head. "What baby?" She asks. My heart beats faster taking in that name.

"You have a daughter?" I ask. She nods her head. "I do." She smiles. I widen my eyes. "Okay." I said and look away. "What?" She asks. "Nothing..I just didn't know...that you had kids." I stutter, trying not to sound rude. "I mean how would you know? We've never met before." She smiles.

"Is me having a daughter a bad thing?" She asks softly. I didn't want to say yes because that would be rude but at the same time me saying no would be lying.

"I don't know." I said. That's all that was on my mind.

After that awkward dinner she dropped me off. She walked me to my apartment even though I said I was fine. She's sweet.

"I'm sorry about the whole kid thing. I probably should of told you a little better? I don't know. I didn't think that you would react this way." She says and plays with her purse.

"It's not your fault. It was just unexpected." I said softly.

"Does that mean I won't get a second date?" She asks quietly. "This was a date?" I ask. She tilts her head confused. "I thought it was." She says. "Oh.." I said.

"Oh god. I suck at this. I should probably talk to you better. I thought me asking you out to dinner was implied for a date." She said cutely.

"I mean, it doesn't hurt to go for a second one of these." I smile. She smiles back at me brightly. She comes and hugs me. "Have a good night baby." She said.

I hug her back hesitantly.  "You too." I smile. She pulls back.

"I'll call you for that second date." She said. "I'll wait by the phone." I flirt.

She laughs softly letting me go. "Bye." She says softly. "Bye Jennifer." I said.

She waved and walks away.

"She has a daughter!" I said.

"So? You can't back up now." My father says walking back inside. He takes a hit from the cigar and blows out the smoke. "I'm not down to ruin some kids life." I said.

"Leah, you already know what you got yourself into. It's either you protect your father or some random lady with a snot nose kid." He says walking in his office now.

"Fine." I said rubbing my temples. "Good." He says and kicks his feet up on his desk.

My mom comes in the room and takes in the tension. "Are you guys hungry?" She asks sweetly. "No, no one is hungry Vicky. Always asking the same shit." He grunts.

I look at him like he's crazy. "Don't talk to her like that, she was just offering." I correct him. I didn't mean to sound so degrading but I've never heard him speak that way to my mom and I'll be damned if he spoke like that to her in front of me.

"Leah do I have remind you of this little arrangement we have?" He threatens. I look at him disgusted. He's not even my father anymore.

"That's what I thought." He said. I ball up my fists to control myself. "Yea ma, I'm down to eat a little something." I said and follow her out of the room. If I stayed there any longer I would've thrown a table at his fuckin face.

"You know sweetie, sometimes it better to let things go with your dad. It's easier on everybody if he thinks he feels "needed" you know. It's a man thing." She said holding my hand.

"But it's not right the way he spoke to you. Does he speak like that to you all the time?" I ask. "No of course not honey." She said not looking at me and goes to the kitchen. I stare at her and get this feeling that she's lying.

I can excuse my dad being an asshole to me, but mom? Hell no.

So Jennifer did call me for that second date. We're currently on that date. This is kind of going fast but I don't mind it. I actually like spending time with her, it's not like I don't find her attractive because I do, I think I'm just using my father as an excuse to pursue her.

"Mm, this wine is not that bad actually. I kind of like it." she says sipping some of her red wine. "Are you surprised?" I ask. she tilts her head clenching her teeth. "Kind of. I just didn't expect it." she shrugs. "Oh I forgot that you travel so much." "And whats that supposed to mean?" she asks raising her brows.

i widen my eyes and look away. "Nothing bad.. all i'm saying, its kind of a little..boujee." I smile. "its not boujee having good taste in wine!" she exclaims making me laugh. "I'm just teasing hun." I smile at her. She bites her lip at me and eyes me down. I immediately start to blush. Having this total bombshell checking me out makes me feel a certain kind of way, not a bad one either.

"SO.." i say trying to shift the focus. "so.." she smiles at me. she has this kind of soft, sexy, tired look going on. its absolutely intimidating for me because it makes her look so much more sexier. Plus i feel her eyes talking to me. its kind of intense for me. "Do you like your food baby?" she asks and looks down at my plate. i look down at it too. I got a steak with fries. i'm only halfway finished but i'm already full. "I think a little too much." i joke. she laughs, "why?". "I don't think i'm going to finish it. i might have to take a to-go box."i said and place my hand over my stomach feeling bloated.

"Yea don't force yourself. Save it for later." she says. "how about you? do you like your food?" i ask. "yeah, it was pretty good." she says and takes a bigger sip from her wine glass. "wine to good i'm guessing?" i tease. "A little". she goes along giggling.
