Leah's pov...
I just got back to New York again and as we know I go straight to my dad's. I loved California. Especially being there with Jennifer. Truly an amazing person, who I now say the L word to now. I can't believe we got there.
Jennifer was acting weird for a little but after we ate breakfast and stuff she went back to normal. She must've been hungry.
Anyways, back to my parents house. I again was greeted by my mom who was acting really weird.
She wouldn't show me a side of her face and covered it with her hair. It was barely noticeable but I know how my mom acts and her habits and right now she wasn't acting herself.
I already went to my dad's office and we argued as usual. I left there and went to the kitchen with my mom since I much rather her presence.
"Mom cmere." I said and hugged her. She hugs me back but my arm took some of her hair away from her face that revealed a nasty purple bruise around her eye, which obviously was attempted to be covered with makeup.
"Hold the fuck up." I said. "Leah! Language!" She exclaims. I roll my eyes. "Ma did he do this to you?!" I ask. "Shhh, lower your voice." She says trying to shush me. "Oh hell no, I'm not letting this man get away with that." I said. "Leah stop you're gonna make it worse." She says and hold my arm.
"What's going on?" I hear my dad's voice coming in the kitchen. "What the fuck did you do to her face?!" I raise my voice immediately turning around. "Leah!" She yells but I ignore her. He looks at my mom then back at me. "Look she fell-" he says coming up with something. "Don't give me that bullshit." I grit. He shakes his head.
"Leah what're you gonna do?" He taunts. My jaw drops and my eyes widen. "Don't worry about that. Ma let's go." I said showing her the way to the door. "Leah I'm fine." She says trying to calm me down. "No fuck that. We're leaving."
"Leah I advise you to be smart. You know what I'm capable of." He says from across the counter. "I'm not scared of you. A man that has to put his hands on a woman to feel power isn't a man at all, you're just a coward who needs to make up for your failures." I said and grab my mom's hand.
My dad starts to walk towards me. "Listen, if you try to stop me from getting my mom out of here I will kill. I don't care how long it takes. Either she stays and I kill you or she leaves and you go to jail. I'm not letting this go on any longer." I say. I see the fear in his eyes get bigger, almost like he's stuck. He knows how I am. I'm no bluff.
"Leah it's okay-" she says. "No it's not. Not even remotely okay." I said and grab her hand bringing her in front of me in my car since I drove this time.
My father stands in the front doorway looking at us. "You'll be getting those divorce papers." I said and get in the car.
"Are you okay?" I ask her. She doesn't answer. I make her look at me. I feel my tears starting to well up. I fight them. "Let me take a picture." I said and pull out my phone. She lets me and closes her eyes.
After I take it, I head to my apartment. We go in and I take Letty out really quick.
Once I come back inside my mom is sitting on the couch. "What am I gonna do?" She asks. I look at her with pity. I sit next to her and rub her knee. "Whatever you want. You don't have to worry about a god damn thing. I'm gonna take care of you now. Take as long as you need." I said. She looks down completely.
"I've always relied on your father. I don't want to do the same thing with you." She said. I nod my head understanding. "I get that. Completely. If you want, you can get a job where I work, see if they have anything open. And regardless, I wouldn't ever use that against you. Take your time deciding I'm not rushing you, I'm not giving you a time frame. You call the shots in your life now." I say and rub her back. She smiles at me. "It feels so good to hear that." She says softly tearing up. "You're the best daughter I could've asked for." She says and hugs me. I hug her back and smile. "Anything for you ma." I say.
We pull away and I wipe her tears. "Are you hungry?" I ask her. She nods her head. "Okay. I'll order something since you haven't had that in a while." I said. She smiles. "Also, go take a shower, I have some clothes you can borrow. Don't worry they're modest and cover a lot." I said. "Oh please I'm not a grandma now!" She exclaims making me laugh. "I know." I said rolling my eyes playfully.
She makes her way to the guest room before she turns around. "I know you don't want to admit it, but I know you like that Jennifer girl. You've had a glow ever since she's came into your life. Don't let that go. Show her your true intentions and let her know what's been going on. She deserves that much." She says and goes to take a shower.
I look down and stare at my phone. I should. She doesn't deserve that. My moms right, especially her going through all that. I couldn't imagine being treated like that. I'm not doing that to Jennifer but to lie to her and her not know what's or was going on with my dad is just as bad.
I need to tell her.
