I'm turning this into a part two of behind the scenes because Wattpad hates me and won't let me make a part 2.

This oneshot takes place 1 year before the current events of the series.

Father's day surprise:
Josie worked diligently with Navaya and Charlie as they set up the house for their father's Father's day surprise. According to school (and Reyna) Father's day and Mother's day were some of the rare holidays that existed from before the Blank Period which Josie found very interesting.

They had Matthew and Kenny take Kenny and her younger brothers out so that they could get gifts for Father and so that the youngest three wouldn't get in the way of Josie, Navaya and Charlie's progress.

The reason why Matthew and Kenny went was because they were both 1s and it would be easier for 2 1s to take 3 1s in between the ages of 5-8 out then a 2 and 3.

And while Navaya and Charlie could explain that they were the three's sisters-in-law but then they would still be severely judged by people because that meant they married below their Ranks.

And while it was legal for 1s-3s to intermarry most people didn't because of the scorn and judgement brought onto them. The lower Ranked person was judged by others in their Rank for things like marrying the higher Rank to escape from the poverty (taking the easy way out), betraying your own Rank and sucking up to a higher Rank meanwhile the higher Ranked person was judged for marrying lower and stooping down to the lower Rank's level.

That was, unless you were nobility or royalty. They weren't judged for marrying a lower Rank nobleperson, that was, unless you were a 4 marrying a 3 due to 3s not being nobility.

But Josie's brother and her inlaws had already faced such discrimination and she was sure that it wouldn't stop anytime soon.

Originally the plan was for her father to take the day off, he really needed it, he had been overworking himself ever since Josie's mother died shortly after Andres' birth, but he decided to go to work despite all of their protests and Darius and Andres (the two youngest) actually breaking down crying which caused Dad to cry a little too promising he'd be home as soon as possible.

Since plan A failed they ended up going to plan B which was setting up a surprise party for him. Charlie was making a cake from scratch, she was an extraordinary baker, probably due to the fact that she owned a small bakery in their country's Alevic district.

Technically, it was a family bakery and she had been working there ever since she was 10 (the legal age for 1s and 2s to start working) but when she turned 20 her dad gave her the ownership to the bakery due to her being the oldest, a tradition that went back to the original founder of the backery 5 generations ago.

As Navaya worked on the decorations Josie walked up to her and informed her that she'd be heading out to get the flowers without informing her where.

It wasn't like she was doing anything dangerous or wrong per se, but rather she was going over to Reyna's house. Reyna surely wouldn't mind giving her some of her flowers that she grew in her garden, and she grew the most beautiful flowers in all of the Satrina district, the district of 1s.

And, according to her family, an Ancient One like Reyna probably didn't want a 15 year old constantly bugging her but Josie begged to differ. In fact Josie was sure that Reyna enjoyed her company.

She turned the corner and sure enough saw Reyna watering her plants. Josie jogged up to Reyna calling out her name to get her attention. Reyna looked up at Josie and for a moment Josie sucked in a breath.

Reyna was old, and you could tell. Not just by the lilac tattoo on her left hand (something that symbolized she was the oldest of the four subdivisions of the Ancient Ones) but also by her eyes.

It wasn't because they had wrinkles there, (one of the things that Reyna told Josie happened as people aged back when she was a girl which Josie found weird. Humans must have looked super weird back then) but rather because the eyes themselves told a story of hardships and wisdom only gained through millennia of existence. They were the type of eyes that once you saw them demanded respect for being able to live for such a long time.

"I suppose you're here for some flowers for father's day. Am I wrong?" She asked standing up and brushing off her white dress that was starting to stain green from the grass, she'd have to wash it lest she get in trouble for "impersonating a 5" Josie noted.

"How'd you know?" Josie teased.

I came to almost every birth in the Satrina district honey, I think I should remember your father's birthday. Oh and here's your flowers." She said handing Josie a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Josie thanked her and raced home in time for the others to come home and the cake and decorations to be finished.

Soon the door opened and in stepped their father/father-in-law as exhausted as ever. The Josie, Kenny, Charlie, Matthew and Navaya all looked at each other worriedly, his condition was worsening with each passing day but for the sake of the younger ones and their father/father-in-law they put that aside for now and decided to just have a peaceful father's day, giving him his presents, flowers and eating the cake that Charlie had previously made.

"Thank you my wonderful children, this is perhaps the best father's day ever." Josie's father said trying (and failing) to hug everyone all at once.
