Chapter 29
Today's sessions drag by and are nothing less than excruciating as I'm trying to focus on my clients while suppressing my own stressors, attempting to push them deep into the back of my mind, while also feeling under the weather. My last client of the day leaves my office, closing the door behind her, and I take this moment to thoroughly stretch my tight muscles and crack the tension from my neck. My arms are extended over my head and my mouth is wide open as a yawn escapes before I get a chance to cover it. Of course, this would be the exact moment that Grey sashays through the door without warning.
"Damn, are you tired or na?"
"Friend, I am exhausted. Today seems like it has been the longest day of my life. I just don't feel right, you know? I'm cold but I'm hot at the same time, I'm lightheaded and my head is banging...my entire body is sore, like I got my ass whooped." I may be exaggerating but I could honestly lie my head here on my desk and catch a nap. I've been feeling bad all day, barely able to keep my eyes open!
"Awww...I see. I was going to ask if you wanted to go for margaritas tonight, but you really don't look well. I'm worried about you."
"I promise, I'll be okay, but I really need to get home to my bed. Rain check?"
"Of course, hunny. Do you think you need to go to the ER? I'm not trying to be funny, but you, honestly, look like shit. Want me to take you?"
"No, I just want to go home...could you drive me there instead?"
After making sure that I get anything of value out of my car, I lock the doors using my key fob before making myself comfortable in the passenger seat of Gray's car. I'm so glad that I asked for a ride, because it seems like I blinked and we were at my house.
"Wake up, Princess...we're here."
Grey comes around to my side to help me out of the car before escorting me into the house and up the stairs. With no energy to even shower, I kick off my heels and burrow between my sheets. Closing my eyes for just a moment, I open them to see Grey returning to the room with a bottle of water. I don't even remember him leaving.
"Sweety, where is your thermometer and medicines?"
I direct him to the bathroom to look under the sink where everything is organized and labeled. He finds things fairly quickly and returns to sit on the edge of the bed.
"I'm still mad that you stole my house, but the changes you've made are stunning. If that bathroom looked like that during the open house, you would have had to fight me in the street for this place." He chats with me while placing the thermometer into my ear. "Oh, girl! You are burning up!" Tenderly, he places the back of his hand to my forehead and then my cheek, as if verifying what the thermometer read.
I'm able to sit up slightly to take the Tylenol he gives me and to gulp down the entire bottle of water before lying back down. My eyes heavily close on their own accord and I'm awakened to see someone new in the room.
"John, what are you doing here? I know Grey's overly dramatic ass didn't bother you to come over here. Like I told him, I'll be okay, I'm just tired."
"You know he gave me all the theatrics but I'm glad he called me. Your fever is going down, thankfully, but I did go ahead and get an IV started. You are displaying flu-like symptoms and you're severely dehydrated. I would recommend you stay home for the remainder of the week and try to get some rest. Grey is downstairs making his famous chicken noodle soup and it is to die for."
"You guys are the sweetest. Thank you so very much. How much do I owe you, Doc?"
He got a good laugh from that before replying, "This one is on the house. It's the least I can do seeing as you have to deal with my husband everyday."
