My eyes jolted open to find Edward's face inches from my own. I opened my mouth, but his finger rose to his lips as he whispered, "Your step-mom is coming to check on you."
"What?" I whispered back in a somewhat panic-stricken manner. I could only imagine how she would react seeing a boy in my bed, nevertheless a vampire. Of course, she didn't know that bit, but if she was trained to kill Edward's kind, then I only imagine it wouldn't take her much to figure it out.
Ears perked, I could hear soft approaching footsteps padding on the floor, her shadow inching at the crevice of the door. When I turned to warn Edward to hide, my eyes widened at the empty spot on my bed and my open window with the frilly curtains Charlie must've intended for Isabella flapping gently against the outside draft pooling in.
Huh. I wonder how many times he slipped out just to avoid getting caught watching me sleep.
I will still not get over how creepy that is, then again, there's worser things for ware when it comes to what's 'creepy' in my life.
While relief suppressed the tension in my body, I realized also it was the day I had to meet Edward's parents which also didn't help ease my probably guilty up-to-no-good expression.
I looked to my bedside clock—it was almost seven in the morning and the subtle hue of yellow-orange rays stretching across the horizon crept into my bedroom, promising a hopefully warm sunny morning.
But given this was Forks and the chance of sunlight occurring more then once in a month was laughable, I doubted it would last very long until clouds assuaged whatever clear skies there was left of yesterday.
So, today was looking particularly even more timid.
"Hey, you up?" Kimi didn't bother to knock on the door—though when did she ever take into consideration my privacy?—before she stepped inside, shutting the door closed behind her. Charlie must've been home still because she wouldn't have closed the door if this wasn't a serious conversation his ears didn't need overhearing.
"What?" I asked in a slightly dry-groggy voice. Glad to know even in my most exhausted of forms I still can manage to be piqued and aggressive in my voice.
