"SURPRISE!"

You know that awful dream you have when you're standing naked in front of your entire school body—no? That's just me? Okay, well the point is, this was worst then that.

Everybody, literally my whole entire school grade instantly jumped up, shooting streamers and popping party cannons whilst blowing into party horns right at the door. I nearly was blinded by the lights that were turned off and worst assuaged by a million smiling faces.

I strained a surprised smile I hoped would be convincing enough.

The Cullens were the easiest to spot among the throng of people all clustered in the living area—Alice was probably the most elated, practically jumping on her toes. Jasper stood beside her, wearing a surprisingly not constipated look as if he wanted to kill everybody—that was a start. Rosalie, no surprise, stood begrudgingly in the background, arms crossed and honestly seemed offended by having humans in their house. Emmett seemed to be enjoying himself, sporting a tiny party hat on his head and blew into a horn, pumping a fist in the air. I nearly laughed at the sight. Esme and Carlisle gave me warm hearted smiles nearest to the door. Besides them, was Charlie and Kimi, easily the most familiar faces, each smiling ear to ear, letting out obnoxious happy birthdays.

My friends—Angela, Jessica, Mike and Eric were standing by the staircase, looking suspiciously stoned as they let a rain of confetti spew out from their hands.

I wanted to bury myself alive.

And if it was even worst, everyone suddenly awaited my reaction eagerly.

So I painfully lied and said in faux-amazement, "Wow! You guys—you shouldn't have!"

Like seriously, you really shouldn't have.

Alice was the first to approach me, and whatever thrumming music had been previously playing was now on loud speaker, inciting everyone to carry on with whatever they had been doing before I arrived. I looked to Edward helplessly.

He offered me a smile he had hoped would cheer me up—but I could see he was amused by all of this and my absolute mortification.

Traitor

"Happy Birthday El!" Alice cheered, grabbing my two hands—and boy were they a wake up call with how icy they were—before she squeezed them affectionately. When she watched my expression hopefully, I just knew I couldn't disappoint her. "So, were you surprised?" She grinned.
