𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐃 weakly through the blinds, filling the Madden living room with a dull, frantic energy. Suitcases were already half-packed near the couch, Vic and Eva pacing like caged tigers who made up their minds hours before the sun rose.

Aveline stood near the hall, hugging her arms over her chest while Colby hovered beside her, visibly agitated. Amy and Jake looked equally lost, caught in the crossfire of another sudden family emergency.

Eva clapped her hands together sharply, making everyone jump. "Well, Texas has been fun," she declared, "but it's time for this supervillain family to hide out in some other unsuspecting suburb."

Vic nodded eagerly. "Who's up for Sheboygan? We can go wherever you want."

"We just have to move quick. I've... done some things."

Aveline snapped her head toward Colby, panic flickering in her eyes. He glanced at her and shook his head slightly — not in warning, but in apology.

"We just got here," Aveline blurted. "Why are we leaving now?"

Eva answered before anyone else could. "We have no choice. We're not safe here since Amy told Hartley our secret."

Amy stiffened, guilt and frustration blending across her face. "Come on," she said softly, "do you really think she'd tell anyone?"

"We can't take that risk," Vic said. "She slips once, tells one person we're villains, and the authorities will lock us up forever."

"Oh," Jake added, raising his hand a little, "that's if Onyx doesn't find us and destroy us first."

Colby exhaled sharply and rubbed the back of his neck. "I say we move to the beach," he muttered, "so I can scare some surfers by shapeshifting into a shark. Or a man-eating crab. Either way, I'm snacking on someone."

Aveline glared at him. He held his hands up defensively. "Kidding. Mostly."

Jake stepped forward earnestly. "We can't leave. We finally started going to school and I like it. I'm the first student at Valley View High to be nominated for Student of the Month after being here less than a month."

Eva groaned. "Oh, Jakey. I don't know how you always find a way to disappoint us."

Before anyone could respond, the front door swung open.

Aveline tensed.

Hartley stepped in with a cheerful wave. "Good morning! How are my favorite supervillains?"

Everyone froze.

"I was up all night thinking about it," Hartley continued, walking farther into the room. "I have so many questions. Have you met Captain Valor? I heard his real name is Doug. And Sparkle Girl — I heard she smells like truth, justice, and coconuts."
