𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐃  like rust and old stone, the kind of abandoned hideout that hadn't been touched in years except by rats and villains. Chains clinked softly every time Aveline shifted, the cold metal locked tight around her wrists and ankles. Her glowing violet eyes dimmed as she tried to steady her breathing. Across from her, Colby tugged uselessly at his restraints, his Flashform uniform torn and streaked with dust.

Oculon paced in front of them like a bored cat, tapping his metal fingers against his thigh. Onyx leaned back against a crumbling pillar, arms crossed, a satisfied smirk stretched across his face. The old warehouse creaked around them, as if groaning under the weight of their presence.

Colby gritted his teeth. "There's no way," he muttered under his breath, shaking his head at the villains. "There is absolutely no way you two are getting away with this."

Onyx arched a brow. "Oh? And what exactly is stopping us? Your optimism?"

Colby glared, the chains rattling as he tried again to pull free. "My family is going to find us. All of them. And when they do, you're done."

Aveline lifted her chin, still drained from the moment they'd ripped her necklace off—her necklace, the only thing that kept the darker parts of her powers in check. The shadows still clung faintly around her skin like smoke, the angel of death simmering beneath the surface. "He's right," she said. "They're not stupid. The second Hartley realized I wasn't answering my phone, she knew something was wrong."

"Oh, we're counting on that," Oculon said with a sly grin. He walked closer, stopping right in front of her. His cybernetic eye whirred as he scanned her face. "In fact, that's exactly what we want."

Onyx stepped forward, clasping his hands behind his back. "Now that we've secured the Chosen One, I can return to Valley View and take out the rest of them."

Colby's breath hitched. "If you lay a hand on them—"

"That won't be necessary, Oculon," Onyx interrupted calmly.

Aveline narrowed her eyes. "Why not?"

Oculon smirked. "Because your little family is going to get us first."

Colby lifted his chin defiantly. "Exactly."

Onyx chuckled, pacing slowly in front of them like he was admiring artwork instead of two chained-up teenagers. "Those fools will be here soon enough to try to save their precious son."

Oculon leaned closer, shadows flickering across his metal plating. "And when they do, we'll be ready."

Oculon's shadow stretched across the cracked floor as he stepped closer, the sound of his mechanical boots echoing through the abandoned warehouse. Aveline's muscles tensed, the faint shimmer of her wings—still faintly visible despite her current chained state—flickering in the dim light. Colby's jaw tightened, his fists clenching against the restraints.
