𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 was noisy before Colby even walked in, but the second he swung open the door, Aveline's head snapped up. Her eyes widened, glowing with that soft, star-colored shine they got whenever she was trying not to smile too hard.
"Avey! Guess what—" Colby started.
She didn't let him finish. She was already crossing the room, fingers in his hair, gasping dramatically. "Oh my god, Colby. Your hair! It's—blonde? Entirely blonde. Like surfer-boy sunshine blonde." She tugged gently at a curl. "You look like you just walked out of a beach commercial."
Vic, sprawled across the couch, lifted a hand. "You're welcome. Science may not always work, but fashion accidents always slay."
Colby smirked, leaning into Aveline's touch like a puppy. "Avey likes it. That's what matters."
Aveline rolled her eyes but didn't stop smiling. "I do. For once, your family's experiments did something cute."
Jake snorted. "Key word: once."
Hartley barreled into the scene like a tornado. "EVERYBODY STOP TALKING ABOUT HIS HAIR—WE HAVE A PROBLEM."
She held up her phone like it was a bomb about to explode. "Mary Stephens—the Mary Stephens—is in town, and she's coming HERE. To see me."
Amy gasped. "The Mary Stephens?! Founder of the OG Sunshine Club?!"
Jake blinked, confused. "So... like... a lady who smiles at stuff?"
"She's basically Cheer Royalty," Amy explained.
Eva cringed. "So a nightmare."
Hartley pointed at her dramatically. "Don't taint this for me! This is the biggest moment of my life. I'm a finalist for President of the Year. This visit has to go PERFECTLY."
Aveline tried not to laugh. "So... not a stressful plan at all."
Vic stretched. "Anyway, blondie, didn't you have news?"
"In a minute, blondie," Amy teased, tapping his glowing hair.
Colby loudly cleared his throat. "HELLO. CHOSEN ONE NEWS. CAN I PLEASE SHARE BEFORE I LITERALLY COMBUST?"
Aveline nudged him with her shoulder. "Colbs, you're always combusting."
"But THIS time it's on purpose," he said proudly. "I have a new power. A big one."
Everyone froze.
Transference," he announced with dramatic flair. "I can give my powers to anyone temporarily. And take them back."
Eva choked. "I'm sorry—WHAT?"
Vic sat upright instantly. "Dude. If this is a joke—please let it be real."
