𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 glowed with the soft blue light of the TV screen as Jake, Hartley, Amy, and Aveline sat sprawled across the couch. Aveline was curled up at one end with a bowl of popcorn resting on her knees, eyes locked on the screen with mild amusement. Hartley, however, was fully invested, hands clasped in excitement as the superhero landed the final perfect punch.

Amy exhaled sharply through her nose like she was physically in pain.

Hartley clapped. "Another win! Gosh, I love this part. It feels so inspiring."

Amy groaned. "Why does every movie have to end with the superhero winning? Every single one. Every time."

"Because people love seeing good triumph over evil," Jake said, nudging her shoulder. "Also because watching it destroy you inside brings me joy."

Hartley grinned. "Let's watch it again!"

Amy's head whipped toward her. "Don't you dare."

Aveline smirked as she tossed popcorn into her mouth. "I personally like the explosions. Ten out of ten."

Jake sighed dramatically. "My sister and my neighbor are my weekend plans. Should I really be talking trash to the only people willing to hang out with me?"

Aveline raised her eyebrows. "Probably not."

Suddenly the lights flickered.

"Yo!"

Colby launched himself over the back of the couch like a wild raccoon in human form. Everyone screamed. Even Aveline's popcorn went flying.

"Colby!" Amy clutched her chest. "Stop using your powers to scare us!"

Colby pouted, brushing popcorn off his hoodie. "Look, my whole life this family has been pranking me with powers. Now I finally get some payback." He grinned wickedly. "Ooh, I can't wait to see how Mom reacts to a rattlesnake in her toilet."

Jake stared. "Pretty sure you haven't really thought that through."

Colby shrugged and strutted out of the room proudly like a tiny villain in training.

A commercial blasted onto the screen.

Coming to The Capital Convention Center, it's the superhero event of the century.

COLOSSA‑CON.

A giant logo filled the TV. Jake's face lit up immediately, while Hartley gasped like she'd seen heaven.

"We've got superhero cosplay, superhero T‑shirts, superhero snacks, and did we mention superheroes?" the announcer boomed.

"You did," Amy muttered. "Multiple times."

"And for the first time ever," the commercial continued, "fresh off her victory over super‑villain Havoc... Starling!"

Amy's entire soul shriveled.
