Jake just grumbled to himself, getting up to go get a glass of water.
Sunghoon stayed on the couch, his eyes following Jake in awe. "Is he usually like that?"
Jake scoffed, "Regretfully yes." He turned back around, leaning against his kitchen island which was facing the sitting Sunghoon. "Are your friends like this?"
Sunghoon thought for a moment before slightly shaking his head. "I don't know, kinda? My friends are very... eccentric." That was true, it was very very true.
"But," he paused, "Nevermind."
Jake quickly shook his head. "Nope. You started saying something and now you have to finish it."
He gave Jake a glare before cautiously, and reluctantly, starting to speak. "I only have, wow this is gonna sound pathetic, I only have like four friends."
As soon as the words tumbled out of his mouth his head fell in his hands. "Man saying this to someone who literally has people begging to be their friend is so embarrassing."
Jake simply shook his head. "No it's not." Sunghoon raised his head. He had expected laughter, maybe a joke? This level of sincerity was not even considered.
"And my case isn't necessarily better." Sunghoons eyebrows furrowed. "Huh? I see you taking and making videos with a ton of other people?"
Sunghoon wasn't wrong. Jake was known for getting along with everyone and being a social butterfly. "Yeah, but that doesn't mean we're friends. We usually make a video or two and stay acquainted." It's not like Jake tried to push people away, it for some reason relationships never seemed to go further then exchanging small pleasantries or going out every once and a while.
He doesn't want to sound pretentious or selective but sometimes he finds it hard to befriend other people with a huge following. It's always thrown him off and he's never known why.
Maybe that's why he hasn't made any other close friends, they might think the same way. "So yes I have many friends, but I only have one friend, which is Niki."
And even with that in mind, befriending quote on quote "normal people", was never easy. Most are genuine, but he's had a couple bad experiences that he doesn't want to relive.
Maybe that's why he's felt so comfortable with Sunghoon, he didn't help because he wanted to gain a following.
"He's the only one I'd ever share my struggles or super personal things with. He's seen me at my lowest and I've seen him like that too."
Jake cleared his throat, stopping himself from getting too sentimental. "Regardless, in my opinion, having a solid person, or persons in your case, is much more valuable than having 20 surface level friends."
Jake pushed himself off the counter as Sunghoon softly spoke. "Hm, I've never thought about it that way."
To be honest, as much as he may complain about his friends, he feels the same way about them. His first encounter with Heeseung in university was something to remember and his elementary school long friendship with Jay was practically unbreakable at this point. And even though he's only known some for a couple years, they're just as dear to him as his childhood friends.
"Whatever," Jake makes his way over to the couch. "I've got Niki... and you." The last part was mumbled, meaning Sunghoon didn't even know he said something else.
After Jake mentally slapped himself, he stood in front of the couch, eyes shifting between Sunghoon and the seat beside him. The slightly cryptic action was starting to creep Sunghoon out. "Are you okay?" He started to look at himself, thinking that he had something on him.
Jake just shook his head before letting out a sharp breath. "Don't kill me, I have an idea." Sunghoon gave him a bit of a side eye but let him continue. "We should start touching each other more." Sunghoons eyes blew open and Jake frantically shook his hands. "Wait! Let me explain!"
This was a thought that came up in passing when Niki was first talking to them. He knew this was something they had to fix if they wanted to convince other people.
"You saw how awkward we were trying to hold hands when Riki came in." Sunghoon grimaced. "So, I'm saying we practice that story of stuff so we get comfortable with looking like a normal couple." Jake stood there passively as Sunghoon just stared.
He eventually gave Jake a small nod. "That makes sense." He patted the seat beside him. "Grab the remote and sit down."
"Okay?" Jake followed the instructions, mildly confused.
He sat down beside Sunghoon at a good distance away before moving closer to him with their thighs touching.
Sunghoon slowly grasped his hand, placing it on Jake's lap. "Is this okay?" Jake's eyes flickered between their clasped hands and Sunghoons gentil gaze.
"Yeah." His hand was really warm. "It's not bad at all actually."
