Chapter 5: Dark Circles

Nico held his breath as Luke's face came into view. His blue eyes were only inches away from his face, so close that he could see the flecks of gold in them.

It seemed as though he was staring right through him, but he didn't make move to grab him. Instead he just closed the stall, leaving it slightly ajar.

"I think we should head back to the table, we don't want her to get suspicious." The sound of Luke's voice resonated across the bathroom.

Nico let out a sigh of relief when he heard the door slam and their footsteps growing fainter.

He looked down at himself, wondering why Luke hadn't hexed him into oblivion. But there was nothing there.

A nonverbal spell must have gone off that made himself invisible for the time being.

He made a mental note to thank his father for making him practice them earlier than he should have been.

Sitting on the closed toilet seat, he waited until his body faded back into view. He wondered what to do next. Before making any rash decisions, he made sure to leave through the back door and re-enter through the front.

He wasn't going to risk looking like he came out of the bathroom in case Luke saw him.

Nico slipped out of the stall and scurried to the back door, praying it wasn't locked. Thankfully it clicked open and he was greeted by a flurry of snow.

He made his way back to the front, trying to brush off the snow that settled on his shoulders and head. The sound of the bells that chimed when the door opened brought attention to him, and his friends looked at him questioningly.

He hoped that he could get there in time before they asked him any questions regarding his bathroom disappearance.

"Hey, where'd you go? I thought you said you had go to the ba-" Percy started.

"Later. " Nico hissed, trying to keep his voice low. "I'll explain when we get back."

Percy threw his hands up, surrendering and went back to whatever conversation was going on previously. That didn't mean worried looks weren't cast his way. He tried to ignore their pleading eyes that were focused on him. Instead he went back to drinking his cherry soda like nothing happened.

"Explain. Now." Piper demanded as they walked out The Three Broomsticks. The trio left a bit earlier and Nico itched to follow them, but he stayed calmly in his seat (or as calmly as he could be, under the predicament at hand)

She halted in her tracks, making Nico stop with her. The rest of the group kept moving forwards, not noticing their lingering near the door.

"Later," Nico said. She started to open her mouth as if to argue but he cut her off before she could.

"Tonight. After dinner. Tell the others to meet in the ROR. I don't want to risk it."

The hardness in his tone must have made something click inside her, and she nodded. Nico wove Jason's scarf tighter around his neck.

"Fine. But you've got a lot of explaining to do."

They walked on, trying to catch up with the group, snow crunching beneath them.

Dinner came, and Nico idly sat on the end of the Ravenclaw table. He didn't want to face Piper just yet and he needed some time alone to process what he witnessed in the bathroom earlier.

Apparently the two had been quite aware of what happened to Ethan, a bit too much actually for Nico's liking.

And what did they mean by bracelet? Nico was tempted to go to the infirmary to check on Ethan again, to see if there was anything on his wrist that may have gone amiss.

Nico swelled into his thoughts until a blonde boy sat down next to him. He groaned into his mash potatoes.

"Solace, you know it's against the rules to sit at another house's table."

Solace smiled at him, the stupid grin making his whole appearance even brighter.

"No one's said anything yet."

"Yet. And mostly because you're the infirmary doctor' son."

"Well played."

He swung his leg over the bench so that he was facing Nico.

"Have you been getting enough sleep like I told you to? The dark circles underneath your eyes seem to tell me otherwise."

He then reached out to poke them.

"Stop that!" Nico whisper yelled. He willed away the red that threatened to rise onto his cheeks.

"But honestly, you look troubled, what's up?" Nico looked up to see him staring back at him with worry. His eyed weren't at all like Luke's. They were a soft blue, that reminded Nico of summer skies and the cotton candy that Hazel made him buy the one time they went to a muggle theme park.

Curse Solace for being undeniably attractive.

"It's... nothing. But if something comes up, I'll tell you." Nico doesn't miss the way his brow furrows in disappointment. But it disappeared as quickly as it formed. He didn't want to bombard him in on his troubles just yet. Especially since his father was the one taking care of Ethan at the moment.

"Good. I always have open ears." He grinned, one last time and got up, making his way to Merlin knows where.

People started to leave the Dining Hall, and he could make out Piper getting up from her seat. He decided to follow suit, glancing at his half eaten plate disdainfully.

"Time for some explaining, I guess."

He got up from his seat, making his way out of the Dining Hall.

So I have been pretty busy but I'm off for summer so maybe updates on this account will be a thing?
