SY'RAI WELLINGTON||17
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd
"Sy'rai time fi get up, we're leaving in the next hour" I heard mommy's voice wake me from my very light sleep and I groaned.
We were leaving for the airport in an hour after a month-long family vacation and I was sad it was over but it was time to get settled back into my old life.
Back into all the secrets and drama that I desperately tried to run away from, if only I could stay a bit longer just to avoid going home to face the mess I temporarily left behind but I can't so we push forward.
I've spent the last month of summer in Toronto surrounded by family after my grandfather passed away and it was a bitter moment for my mother but I barely knew the guy.
I've only ever met him twice; once when my parents got married and the second time when I was 10 years old but he would always send me money so I guess I have him to thank for not having to worry about paying for college.
Apparently, the money he gave me was placed in a trust fund by my mother which I could only access when the time for me to attend college rolled around.
"Come eat something cause yuh nah come drop dung a road pan we" my mother says placing my breakfast on the table and I took a seat.
It only took me 30 minutes to get ready mainly because my hair was in braids and I didn't have to worry about combing it and I was wearing sweats cause who did ago dress up just to sit on a plane for hours? Not me...
"Good Morning" I greeted my father with a bright smile and he leaned over to kiss me on the cheek.
"Morning babygirl, yuh ready fi school next week?" he asks and I shake my head.
It was my final year of high school and to say I was nervous would be an understatement but at least I had Avi to bear the storm with.
She was my twin flame and ride or die, we did every and anything together since the day we met in the 4th grade and have basically been joined at the hip since.
Finishing up with breakfast, I washed my plate along with the dishes that were left in the sink as my father took our luggage out to the car so we could head out with enough time before our flight.
The drive to the airport wasn't long and before I knew it we were in line getting ready to check in.
"Mommy hold this please, mi ago use the bathroom" I announced and she told me to hurry and come back because we were almost at the front and I nodded making my way towards the bathroom.
Getting my business done, I washed my hands and reapplied some lip balm before exiting the bathroom.
Accidentally bumping into a guy on my way out, I mumbled, "Sorry" not really sure who's fault it is that we ran into each other.
