Kaminari Denki had been thinking about coming out to her classmates and teachers a lot recently. She'd told her parents weeks ago that she was actually a girl and that had gone...well, it had happened. She tried not to think too hard or too much about her mom's disbelieving face as she said "sure you are honey" or her dad's chuckle before he ruffled her hair and left the room without saying anything.

So they didn't think she was serious. That wasn't so bad, at least they didn't hate her? Denki knew she wasn't seen as a serious person by pretty much anyone, but that didn't mean she didn't know anything about anything like people tended to assume. Even if she was as dumb as people acted like she was, she knew who and what she was. She was a girl who wanted to be a hero, why was it so hard for them to understand that she was sure about it? Why did they seem to think it was just another silly thing she said that she would forget about in a week?

Class 1A was next on the list of people she wanted to tell about her true self. Denki wasn't worried about them accepting it too much. They had no problem with Kirishima and Bakugo dating or Jirou and Momo. No one but Mineta (who had finally been expelled months ago) had any issue with Dark Shadow wanting to be referred to as they.

It was just nerve wracking to tell people who she truly was. The thought of having to be that vulnerable with people she cared about made her sick and filled her with anticipation all at the same time. She had imagined a million different scenarios and reactions. She came up with countless possibilities while she was in her room alone, wearing her skirts and dresses that lived in a box at the back of her closet.

One way she'd never imagined it was the way it actually happened. Denki had been eating lunch with her friends on a regular Friday when Uraraka sat down at their table, "Mina, Jirou, are you both coming to girls night in Momo's room tonight?"

Denki listened to them talk about how much fun the girls would have together and couldn't stop herself from asking, "Can I come too? You all have so much fun at girls' night!"

Kirishima elbowed her, "Bro, it's just for girls. Asking that isn't manly."

Denki bit her lip, it was now or never. "What if I told you that um...I am a girl?"

Jirou scoffed, "Calling yourself a girl so you can perv out at girls' night is disgusting."

Kirishima frowned at Denki, "Yeah, that's super unmanly."

Sero, Uraraka, and Mina all agreed that it was uncool while Bakugo grumbled about them being too loud. Every word felt like a knife in Denki's chest. They didn't believe her, didn't even consider it a possibility. Obviously, she was just making it up for dumb reasons. She could feel the tears building up in her eyes so she laughed it off like it was a bad joke and said she needed the bathroom.

She couldn't bring herself to go into the wrong bathroom to cry in a stall so her next best option was the tree near enough to the building she wouldn't be late to class but far enough away no one could hear her sobbing. Denki curled her legs to her chest and buried her face into her knees as soon as she reached her spot under the tree. It felt like hours had passed before her crying quieted and her tears slowed down.

Her chest was still aching with the pain of her friends not believing her. She was so distracted trying to figure out what she could have said to convince them that she didn't hear someone approaching.

"What's a member of class 1A doing out here all alone, no adoring fans in sight? Everyone finally realize class 1B is better?"

Denki wanted to scream when she realized who it was that had found her pity party. "Not today Monoma, please."

She didn't bother looking up to see his reaction which meant she was surprised when he sat down next to her and spoke in a much less snotty voice than usual, "Taking down class 1A is no fun if you're not at your best so if you tell me what's wrong I'll fix it so I can show you up and no one can say you weren't at peak performance."
