Denki's nerves were creeping up in her stomach as she walked to the 1B dorm. By the time she opened the doors, she felt a little sick and maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Then she walked in and was greeted by Kendo.
The class president smiled at her, "We are so happy you're joining us tonight, Kaminari! Also, thank you for trusting us enough to come out to us." Denki found herself relaxing as Kendo grabbed her wrist and led her to the elevator. "We're all hanging out in my room. Dinner will be pizza delivered in a bit."
As they passed the couches, Awase grinned at them. "Congrats on coming out, Kaminari!"
Tetsutetsu looked up from where he was losing to Awase at mario kart with a huge smile. "Yeah, it's super cool to be who you are! You inspire me."
Kendo rolled her eyes as they waited for the elevator. "Tetsu would be inspired by someone just walking down the street. But, it is awesome."
Denki smiled at the girl, she was starting to think she needed to hang out with Kendo more often. "Thanks."
They chatted about training as they made their way to Kendo's room. Opening the door, Denki was greeted with several excited girls, a nod from Monoma, and an unenthusiastic hello from Shinso. She was a little surprised at the two not girls present, the 1A girls were very strict about only allowing girls at their girls' nights. "Shinso, Monoma, what are you both doing here? Not that it's an issue, I just wasn't expecting to see you."
"My gender was stolen by a talking possum so I haunt girls night. I use they/them pronouns." Shinso looked up from their phone screen, their hair was pushed back by a pink headband with kitten ears that Denki thought made them look even cuter than usual. "You use she/her or something else?"
Denki smiled, "She/her is great! What about you Monoma?"
The boy kept his eyes on where he was painting Pony's nails. "I'm a he/him, but I have all the best gossip and skincare products so I always attend girls' night."
Komori explained as she braided Tokage's hair, "We call it girls' night, but anyone is welcome."
Kendo nodded. "It's more of a gossip, face mask, make over, and junk food night. Girls' night is less of a mouthful."
Denki bounced on her heels, barely containing her excitement. "That's perfect! It's everything I wanted to do at girls' night."
Shinso smirked at her, "You say that now, but wait until Pony burns your face off with a mask."
Pony used the hand not being worked on by Monoma to throw a pillow at them, "I told you to only keep that mask on for eight minutes or the collagen would start stinging! It's not my fault you fell asleep."
Kendo showed Denki where she could put her stuff and had her pick out the color she wanted for her nails. Denki settled into a bean bag next to Shinso's while Shiozaki started her manicure. Her nails were going to be purple to match her pajamas, Shiozaki looked like she was concentrating very hard so Denki turned her attention to the gossip flowing around the room to keep herself from moving.
Over the next few hours Denki learned who was flirting with who, what students were at war with each other, who was really responsible for dying Vlad King's skin blue, and why everyone avoided that one third year. She provided them with the best gossip about 1A and the friends she had in the other courses.
They devoured the pizza when it arrived while spilling their own secrets. Monoma was three months into therapy to get over his inferiority complex, Kendo was determined to be an icon for girls to show how you can be feminine and badass at the same time, Pony had to call her parents at least once a week to convince her to stay in Japan, Shinso was Aizawa and Yamada's son (Denki had totally called it), and Komori had egged Kamui Woods's agency after he made ableist comments in an interview.
Denki even felt comfortable enough with them to admit that sometimes she daydreamed about punching her 1A friends in the throat. That sparked a very intense discussion about all the toxic behavior her friends exhibited toward her. Denki knew her friends liked to tease her more than anyone else in their group, but she had never considered how much more mean they were to her on top of that.
Bakugo refusing to stop calling her dunce face no matter how much she asked. Jirou dismissing her any time she had an idea or opinion on school work or training. Mina telling her she was "being a bit much" any time she got excited about something. Kirishima telling her to talk less if she wanted more friends. Sero not studying with her because she was "too distracting and hyper".
All of them making fun of her bad grades and her overloads when her brain shut her body down. They teased her about wanting to listen to music during tests, saying she wanted to distract herself from how bad she was going to fail, when she needed the noise to focus because of her ADHD. They called her a liar when she said she loved English classic novels, because she was too dumb to have taste. They would hang out without her because they "didn't have the energy to deal with Kaminari right now".
She had never thought about all of it collectively. For her, it was small moments that made her feel bad even as she laughed along, acting like she was in on the joke instead of the punch line. But when everyone in the room started asking questions, it all added up to her friends not actually being good friends.
Monoma handed Denki a fancy candy from the bag he'd been refusing to share all night. "It sounds like you need better friends."
Komori nodded, "They sound like ableist assholes. If you want me to egg them, I will."
Denki giggled at that. "I think I'll try to stand up for myself before we jump to egging. Maybe they didn't realize how shitty they were being."
Shinso snatched her crust off her plate. "Don't give them too many chances. Toxic people aren't worth the mental energy it takes to fix them."
Grabbing Shinso's last slice of pepperoni, Denki agreed. "If it turns out they're actually just dicks I'll drop them. I think I found some better friends already anyway."
Monoma made a gagging noise. "Gross. Sappy. Stop with the feelings."
Denki kicked his shin lightly. "Says the boy who let me cry on him this afternoon."
"Awww, our baby's growing up." Kendo fake cooed as she draped an arm around Monoma's shoulders. He used a hand on her face to shove her off, his face bright red. After that, the conversation went back to lighter topics as they finished their food and moved on to face masks and makeup.
They had a photo shoot in full glam makeup and pajamas. Everyone got a kick out of Denki wearing the exact same pair of pajamas as Shinso. By the time they settled down to watch movies, the photo of Denki and Shinso on instagram captioned who wore it better had almost as many likes as the group photo of all of them piled on Kendo's bed fighting over makeup. It might have been her first girls' night, but Denki thought it was the best girls night ever.
