Tom Riddle❜s diary was the first one introduced to us. It is also said to be the first one Riddle created by the murder of Myrtle Warren in the June of 1943. Hidden away by Lucius Malfoy until Harry Potter's second year, we come to know of its malice years later when Dumbledore states the true nature of the diary to our protagonist. This diary was the silent villain throughout the second book, manipulating Ginny Weasley to kill — but failing and ending up with petrifying — muggle-borns. It was destroyed by Harry when he went down to the chamber in May of the year 1993 to save Ginny. Harry used the venom of the basilisk fang to put an end to the diary horcrux. Tom's manipulation left a scar in young Ginny's mind that can be seen by the way the dementors affected her in the next book.

The second horcrux that Riddle created in the August of the same year — 1943 — is Marvolo Gaunt❜s Ring. Being extremely cautious in order to not get caught, Riddle murdered his father, Tom Riddle Senior, using his uncle❜s wand. Morfin Gaunt was therefore blamed for the murder that took place in the Riddle House, Little Hangleton. Albus Dumbledore found the ring years later at the Gaunt Shack and destroyed it using the Sword of Gryffindor. Dark magic always left traces and when Dumbledore wore the ring, his hand was damaged beyond belief.

The third horcrux to be created was the Locket of Salazar Slytherin. Riddle turned foul by murdering a Muggle tramp and hiding the locket away in the Crystal Cave that housed more obstacles than your horror house. The exact date of its creation is unknown but the approximate time period is estimated to be within the years 1946-1979. The locket❜s history is the most complicated. It was stolen by Regulus Black and Kreacher, the Black Family's house elf, and hidden away at #12, Grimmauld Place for destroying it. However, Regulus was severely injured because of the skirmish in the cave that led to his demise. Thus, the Dark Arts took another life. Soon after Harry is said of his mission, we get to know that Mundungus Fletcher had sold it to Dolores Umbridge as a bribe to get away from selling products of theft. After a lot of struggle, the Golden Trio procured it back but its pessimistic energy led Ron Weasley to abandon the group. After coming to his senses, he destroyed the locket using the Sword of Gryffindor in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire on 28th December 1997.

The fourth horcrux, Helga Hufflepuff❜s Cup, was created by the murder of Hepzibah Smith sometime later than 1946. It was hidden away in the Lestrange❜s Vault at Gringotts for safekeeping. Hermione Granger was responsible for destroying this horcrux during the Battle of Horcruxes in the eerie atmosphere of the Chamber of Secrets.

Rowena Ravenclaw❜s Diadem was the fifth horcrux which was destroyed by Vincent Crabbe by an accidental, out-of-control Fiendfyre set on the Room of Requirement on the day of the Battle of Hogwarts. It was created by the murder of an Albania peasant and was hidden in the strange Room. Unfortunately so, Crabbe was swallowed by the fire.

The sixth horcrux is technically Harry Potter as Nagini was created in the Summer of 1994. The horcrux inside Harry was created by the murder of Lily Potter (nee Evans) on 31st October 1981 in Godric❜s Hollow. Ironically, Voldemort never knew Harry housed a part of Voldemort's soul inside him. In fact, he was the one who destroyed that part of his own soul by using the Killing Curse on Harry on the day of the Battle of Hogwarts in the Forbidden Forest.

Nagini, the seventh horcrux or what it was thought by Voldemort, was created by murdering Bertha Jorkins, an employee of the Ministry of Magic. It was beheaded by Neville Longbottom during the Battle of Hogwarts using the Sword of Gryffindor.

To conclude, every horcrux that Riddle created inflicted damage in one or the other way, sometimes taking away lives more than one. The lesson that you learn from this is to never, ever create a horcrux.

❝Can you keep a secret, Tom? Will you promise you won't tell Mr Burke I've got it? He'd never let me rest if he knew I'd shown it to you, and I'm not selling, not to Burke, not to anyone!❞
