Dahlia Meadows

I was stunned when Dallas spoke to me. It didn't sound like a conversation, it was like he was insulting me or I'm overthinking it.

It sounded like he was telling me I was a impressive person because I looked so soft-hearted outside, I guess that was his main idea.
"Tougher than you, I'd say." as I pinned the fork to my food as I looked at him. He just shaked his head, which made me confused because a smile suddenly appeared from his face. It was like I've seen another Dallas or was he just possessed.

"What'd he do to you that you had to be so violent?" as January looked at me worriedly. "That guy just grabbed my ass. Isn't he an asshole?" as I tell her with my face looking at Julian's direction so disgustiy. I just proceeded to focus on eating and I secretly took a look at Dallas. He was really quiet, and that's what caught my attention.
I wanted to know him because he didn't seem like the person who'd do that when he was anger. For example when he was crowded, he didn't spit out any words to the public but this time he did? It makes me curious on what could have possibly made him so upset.

"I'm off." Dallas grabbed his tray and left the cafeteria.

I was curious about him. His parents, his real personality especially his love life. No one knew about what's going on in his life, and that made him stand up to me. He was one of a kind, and I wanted to try befriending him. Even if I hated his guts.

A few hours passed by and school was finished, it finally reached the weekends. My birthday was on Sunday, I only expected to celebrate my birthday in January.

Two days later..

The doorbell rang and I fastened my speed to open the door. It was January!
"Hi, Janua-" I opened the door as I anticipated to celebrate my birthday with her, till there was a guy next to her. It was Dallas. "Now, what is this tall ass hell guy doing?" I spoke in a disrespectful manner. I did not expect this guy to come over. He wasn't invited at all. "Thank you. Can we come in?" He spoke with a weary voice, he sounded fatigued or something. I blocked him from coming in. "No, you cannot." I emphasize the word cannot to him so loudly — I couldn't let him inside since he wasn't invited at all.

"It's been a journey of hell so would you please let me in." as he removed my hands blocking my door. "Thank you." I mocked the way he said thank you, because how dare he come inside with no permission? A total douchebag would only do that. I grabbed January and whispered loudly, "I didn't know you'd bring him over?!" as I looked at him. "He's too protective of me, sorry. Pretend like he's a dead ass wind for now. The more the merrier right!" January as she smiled awkwardly. It wasn't a genuine smile but it was a distressed smile. She facepalmed as she took as glimpse of Dallas sitting down in my sofa. She absolutely looked like she didn't want Dallas to come. "Why the fuck is he so drained, he's been panting so loudly." I asked as we both faced his direction. "The elevator didn't work, it had a sign beside it. We had to take the stairs and your floor was literally the 10th floor. Who wouldn't be tired girl.." as she also sounded very much exhausted.
"The elevator works though? I didn't trust the sign at all!" I looked at her laughing and she was looking at me, widening her mouth. I started slowly laughing as I faced to Dallas who was very disappointed to hear that the elevator was working very well. "I should've told you guys, that's totally.. my bad.." I was doomed. I should've pretended it was also broken, but who trusted signs nowadays? I must be just that stubborn girl then.

"Now, why are you here?" as I sat and crossed my arms, feeling his cold gaze towards me. "That's my sister. Who knows what you might do to her." he said coldly. "The fuck? Are you telling me I have bad intentions toward your sister?" I replied in a disappointed tone. "Yes."
"If I had bad intentions that would be for you, not for your sister asshole." I shrugged my shoulders as I arched my eyebrows. "Totally fine with me," he said. In the middle of Dallas and I arguing, January was in the middle as I talked as a foulmouthed girl to her brother. "Stop now, stop. That's enough." as she grabbed our hair together. I met eyes with Dallas and he was collectively holding his calm gaze to me. What a cold jerk.

January finally let go of us and he fixed his black plain shirt. He was wearing something casual, which was new for me. He was also wearing a black hoodie. I looked at him from head to toe, as I familiarized him with clothes he didn't usually wear. He honestly looked like he was about to attend someone's funeral.

"I have a gift, Dahlia!" I grabbed a luxury bag. I was happy since I was a first time student in Hamptons, and I met such a nice, pretty girl January as my friend now. She was the only one I could trust, nobody else. "This is just.." Amazement fills my eye as I examine the bag. "Beautiful, January." My eye started getting teary as I get hysterical. Not only because I got a bag, but it was because it was so considerate of her to think of gifting me on my birthday. I often got gifts from my parents, but since our business started losing customers, then my father started asking for debts I barely got my birthday recognized by them whereas I had to remind them. Now, for my birthday they're not here because of a family issue in the Philippines.

I hugged January tightly, and slowly whispered. "Thank you." as she also whispers gently back to me. "You're always welcome." January looked at my table, I only prepared chicken and a cake I bought for myself. I got up and finally remembered what was missing. "We're missing beer! That was the one thing lingering in my mind, now I remember. I'll be back." I told January. "Dallas can come with you." she added.

"I'm good." I said. "She said she's good." as January looked at Dallas. January turned on the TV, and the news came in. They were reporting about kidnapping cases happening recently, the girl was also our age.. What has society become? Wait, kidnapping? I slowly turned my head to them, as they were looking at me.
"I might need help.." as I nervously admitted. "Go, Dallas." January tapped on Dallas' shoulder.

I couldn't imagine just us two walking by each other's side.
Deep inside, it was a relief. I felt safe.
