Throughout his life, Theodore Carey has had hidden feelings, for someone he wasn't supposed to feel for. He loved Princess Diana Gemwater. Even though his father was the king's most respected advisor, Theo was not allowed to like Diana, especially just when she is about to get betrothed. He flinched as Diana was approached by Jasper, who flashed an icy smile at her. The smile sent chills down his spine, but Theo also felt something else creeping up slowly, a storm building up. Jealousy. Theo didn't hear anything after King Orace announced that his friend- okay, maybe his love, had been betrothed. Theo looked down at his tail, waiting for the command to let him go. Sure enough, Queen Oralie announced that he was dismissed. He bowed to Diana's parents before swimming quickly out of the throne room- completely missing Diana's mistrust and fear of her new husband.
Theo swam back to his quarters as fast as he could.
As soon as he had reached the metal doors, he got inside and bolted the door shut. He needed some time. Theo took off his helmet and looked in the mirror. His tousled dirty blonde hair danced around with the current, very much unlike the slick, dark, gelled back hair of Prince Jasper. He felt like he was staring into his soul by glaring at the mirror with his silver eyes. Theo resisted the urge to punch the mirror. How could he ever live up to Jasper? Jasper's status was higher, and of course the king and queen would like Jasper better than Theo. Diana would forget about Theo soon, living happily with a new perfect husband in a whole other kingdom. He couldn't bear it. He wanted to be with his love. He'd loved her since the day that they'd been introduced to each other, and the feelings grew larger and more affectionate as the years went on.
But now Perfect-Pretty-Prince Jasper came into their life, Theo would now have to live with a broken heart, trying to ignore that small, desperate part of him that said that Diana still loved Theo.
Theo sat down on his kelp bed, and cried.
