The night before Midoriya planned to do something to make Todoroki his again, he asked for advice from his best friend and roommate.
"Alright, so when you first got together, he just kissed you, right?" Kirishima was across from Midoriya as they sat on their respective dorm beds. Midoriya nodded in confirmation. "Okay, so maybe, you just gotta do the same thing!"
"That's dumb." Bakugou grumbled from Kirishima's desk as he scribbled across a piece of paper. "Not only does Deku not have the balls to crowd the bastard, but how is he going to get to that point anyway?" He never looked up, but his neck rolled along with his eyes.
When Kirishima looked to Midoriya for any reaction to Bakugou's words, the freckled teen just shrugged. "That's probably true."
"Hmm..." Kirishima tapped at his chin in thought. "We need something that will wow him and be capable for you to do." A couple of silent moments passed with the redhead scanning the room, before Kirishima bounced in his spot and grinned excitedly. "I got it!"
Midoriya takes a deep breath as he walks up the path to Todoroki's home. The canvas in his hands faces him so not to spoil the surprise. When he reaches the front door, he sighs and slowly opens the door, entering the threshold.
"In here!" Todoroki's voice travels from the kitchen. "Just putting away some groceries." Midoriya nods before clearing his throat.
"O-Okay." He mentally curses himself for stuttering, his nerves on display.
He tips off his shoes while nibbling at his lip. He's never done something like this before. Well, maybe for his mom, for every child draws and colors a picture for their parents, right? This is different, more intimate.
"Izuku? You alright?" Todoroki peeks his head out from the kitchen with his brows scrunched.
Midoriya nods and smiles. "Y-Yeah. You finish with the groceries?" Normal conversation should help ease his nerves, right?
"Uh," Todoroki turns to glance in the kitchen again before looking back and making his way into the living room. "Yeah. I got some new things to try for dinner." As he gets closer to Midoriya, his eyes study the back of the portrait in Midoriya's hands. "What's that?" He nods at the canvas.
Midoriya looks down at it, then up again.
"Mind if we sit down?" Midoriya rubs his lips together, trying to calm his racing heart.
"Sure..." Todoroki raises an eyebrow and starts for the couch. "Is everything okay? You're kind of worrying me."
Midoriya wants to laugh because this is exactly how their talk about being a sugar daddy and sugar baby started, but instead, he sighs as he sits beside Todoroki, keeping a bit of distance between them.
When Midoriya doesn't answer, Todoroki stays silent and the student is incredibly thankful for that. No matter how many times he went over in his head what he wanted to say, it could never prepare him to actually repeat the words to Todoroki.
"Shouto, I-I'm really happy to have you back in my life." Midoriya can hear Todoroki's breath hitch, but keeps going. "Those weeks without talking to you or seeing you were some of the hardest I've ever had to endure, and I really never want to go through that again." Midoriya stares at the small sliver of couch that is between them, focusing on the pattern on the cushions instead of Todoroki's gaze.
Okay, one part down, still more to go. He definitely feels better admitting that though considering he's held it in for a while now. He wanted Todoroki to know that he wasn't okay during their time apart, that he did hurt him.
