The day after the bar incident I had just gone by the post office in town and placed the letters and my letter in the PO box. I sighed as I left knowing this was going to start something insane. Letter correspondents, same thing my mother did my whole life with a man who wanted to be in my life but couldn't.
I was driving down the road knowing I needed to get to the store and then go back home. It was back to work on Monday so this was the last time I could really get anything done. As I was driving my car started sputtering and smoking from under the hood.
"No, no, no, don't do this...I cant afford this right now..." I groaned as I pulled my car off to the side of the road and put it in park as it died. "FUCK!" I screamed as I banged the wheel. I leaned my forehead on the wheel and I just sighed. This could not be happening. This was not going to work for me right now. I lifted my head and pulled out my cellphone to call Alice and a tow truck only to find my cellphone was dead.
"You have got to be fucking kidding me. Could anything else possibly go wrong right now?!" I asked pissed off. I put my forehead back on the steering wheel wishing this was all a dream and soon I would wake up and be back in my bed, mom would be alive and this shit show of my life would be back to normal.
I was sitting with my head against the steering wheel when there was a knock on my window making me snap my head up. There was a guy standing there, a young guy, wasn't sure how young but young. He was skinny and squirrelling looking. Not someone I would normally trust but he seemed innocent enough. I rolled down my window and looked at him.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I cant help but noticed your car is broken down..." He trailed off and I just looked at him.
"Observant." I said. He just huffed a laugh.
"I work for Teller – Morrow auto shop and I have the tow truck with me. I would be willing to take your car in and have it looked at." He said and I just looked at him oddly. I looked and saw his tow truck was in front of me.
"Listen, thanks for the help but I don't know you or your company or anything and I don't want to be kidnapped." I said and he laughed.
"Hold on a second." He said and rushed back to the tow truck and then came back with a business card. It said the autobody shop on the car and his name.
"Kip?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yeah, you can always call and verify this is all real."
"That would be great and I would totally do that except my phone is dead." I said and he sighed pulling his from his pocket.
"Call them." He said and I groaned getting out of the car and taking his phone from him. I dialed the number on the card.
"Teller – Morrow autobody." The lady answered the phone.
"Yes, I was just calling to verify you have someone by the name of Kip who is driving your tow truck." I said and she huffed a laugh.
"Yeah we do. Your car broken down or is he just trying to pick you up?" The lady asked and I looked at Kip.
"Car broke down, my phone was dead and he found me on the side of the road." I said and she sighed.
"Well yes, he works for us. Have him give you a ride here and we will get someone to look at your car." She said and before I could say anything else she hung up. I handed the guy back his phone.
"She verified it for you and said to give me a ride to the shop with my car." I said and he nodded.
"Go ahead and get in the truck, I will hook up your car." Kip said and I grabbed my things and went to get in the tow truck.
I mean I guess something was finally going right...right?
After he loaded up my car he got in the truck and we headed to the auto shop. Once he parked we both got out of the tow truck as a guy came walking over.
"What happened?" I heard him ask and I looked up knowing the voice and I just crossed my arms and huffed a laugh.
"You again...Jax right?" I asked and he huffed a laugh seeing me.
"Yeah, that's right. This your car?" He asked and I nodded.
"It is...I broke down on the side of the road." I said and he nodded.
"What happened with the car?" He asked.
"Sputtered, starting smoking from under the hood and then died." I said and he sighed.
"Sounds like it overheated, might be a gasket. I can take a look at it." He said and I nodded.
"Thanks...before you do any work though can you tell me how much it's going to be? My funds are kind of limited right now." I said and he nodded.
It wasn't a full lie I was able to get all the money my mom had left over in her back account that was from my dad but it went to medical bills and bills for the house. I was strapped now and didn't know what I was going to do if something seriously went wrong.
"Of course I can. You can go sit in the office over there. My mom is in there working but it's where people wait." He said and I nodded as I walked towards the office and walked in the open door.
"Can I help you sweetie?" The lady asked. I was kind of taken aback by her. She was beautiful but a hard looking woman. She had seen some shit in her day and clearly didn't take shit from anyone.
"I was the one who Kip just brought in. Jax said I could wait in here..." I trailed off.
"Oh right, well come on in and have a seat." She said and I walked in, sitting down and she just looked at me. "You got a name?" She asked. I just smiled at her forwardness.
"Jules." I said.
"I'm Gemma." She said and I just looked at her.
"You said Gemma?" I asked.
"Yeah, why?" She asked getting defensive.
"I think you know my dad..." I said and she huffed a laugh.
"I know a lot of people hunny, who's your dad?" She asked and before I could answer someone walked in.
"Hey Gem, who is working on the new car that came in? Wait...Jules?!" The man known as Tig, or Alexander walked in. We made eye contact and I just sighed.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I work here, what are you doing here?" He asked.
"That's my car they just towed in." I said and he sighed.
"You two know each other?" Gemma spoke up.
"Yeah, this is Jules...my daughter." Alexander said.
