The summer I turned ten, my mom visited me again. This time, instead of the typical scenery, we were on a beach. Poseidon was there as well. I glanced at him, then back at Mom, who chuckled. "We're going to be working on your powers today. Poseidon wanted to watch," Poseidon had been popping into more dreams recently. "Am I not allowed to watch my favorite Step-daughter learn how to use her powers?" Poseidon asked, causing me to giggle. "I'm your only step daughter!" I exclaimed. Poseidon shrugged. "Which makes you my favorite," He countered. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Mom. "Ellie, when you were with Lupa, you learned more fighting instead of powers. You did learn some though. You know how to control sea water to a certain point and a little bit of fresh water as well. You know how to tell if someone is a half-blood, god, or mortal using blood. Today, I am going to teach you how to use the water in the air and control fresh water easier. First, let's focus on air. You already know how to feel when there are people in the room, but now, we focus on collecting the water. Sit down," Mom and I sat on the sandy shore. I copied how my mom sat. Legs cross and arms in my lap. She closed her eyes, so I did as well. "Feel the water flowing around. Feel it in your blood. I am a Nereid and the female manifestation of the sea and queen of the Ocean. I am almost completely water. Which means so, are you. Feel it flowing throughout you. Now reach into the air. Bring the water molecules towards you. Into your hands. Form a ball. Now open your eyes." Slowly, the beach came back into my vision. Sure enough, in my hands, there was a ball of water. I was exhausted, though, causing me to lose focus and drop the water. Mom smiled. "That happens. It will grow easier. Here, let me help," Gracefully, Mom pulled a bunch of salt water from the ocean and doused me with it. "Hey!" I exclaimed, but I snapped my fingers and was dry. "Good job. Feel more energized now?" Mom asked. I nodded. "Good, let's try that again." We practiced pulling water from the air repeatedly until I could do it well. "I think you got that down. Make sure to try it when you wake up. Let's move onto fresh water. It might require a little more energy, but you should be able to move it as easily as salt water. Stand up," Mom ordered. Suddenly, we were in a forest by a river. "We'll start small. Try pulling a blob out of the water. Remember, water is part of you. It courses through your veins more than a normal human. Feel it become an extension of you. Close your eyes and pull." Mom instructed. So I did. Sure enough, I was able to pull more than a blob. I brought the water around me and opened my eyes. It swirled like a whirlpool. "She's more powerful than you thought, Amy," Poseidon said, wrapping his arm around Mom and kissing her head. Ew, gross. I collected the water into a ball and sent it skyrocketing toward Mom and Poseidon as they kissed. Before either could do anything in retaliation, I woke up. I was vigorously awoken by Annabeth. Her face was directly above mine, and she was shaking me. "Wake up Beth! It's time for breakfast!" She continued shaking me even after I'd woken up. "If you don't stop, Beth, I will send Calla and Strider at you," I told her tiredly. Calla and Strider sat up lazily, hearing their names. Annabeth stopped shaking me real quick. Calla and Strider like her and see her as their kitten, but I'm their mom, and they would not hesitate to attack her at my command, especially Calla. Annabeth climbed off my bed and over to the cats. She got down to their level and started petting them. I smiled and got ready for the day. Walking to breakfast, I remembered what my mom had taught me. I turned to Annabeth excitedly. "Meet me at the beach after breakfast and I'll show you some new things I learned last night!" I told Annabeth. Before she could question it, I ran over to have breakfast with Chiron and Mr. D. "Morning, Dad! Papa," I chirped, taking a seat. Chiron chuckled at the name. When I was eight, I accidentally called Chiron and Mr.D my dads, so ever since, that's what I'd call them. "Good morning, Liza. How are you?" He asked. "Good," I said, piling food onto my plate. I looked at Chiron and then at the camp. There was someone new. I could tell from the way Chiron sat. I scanned the Hermes table until I found them. Two girls. One had fiery red hair, and the other had silvery blonde. Dionysus stood up to introduce them to camp. "Half-Bloods!" He said. Everyone stopped talking to look at him, "Bad news, we have two new campers. Giniva Walsby and Loony Lovely." 'Giniva' looked like she wanted to attack him on the spot, but I got to him first. Under the table, I kicked Dionysus's leg. "Dad!" I hissed quietly. "Ow!" He exclaimed, looking at me. I gave him a glare, and he sighed. "Sorry. Good news, we have two new campers. Ginerva Weasley and Luna Lovegood," He announced, then he turned to me, "Happy Liza?" I nodded. Dionysus sat back down, and breakfast continued as usual. After breakfast, I caught up with Ginerva and Luna. Luna crouched down to pet Strider, but Ginerva eyed the cats nervously. Why do so many people think cats are scary?"Calla and Strider won't hurt you," I promised Ginerva. "I'm Eliza," I said, holding out my hand. "Ginny," Ginny said, shaking it. "Come on, I'll show you around camp."After giving the girls a brief tour, I handed them off to Luke and ran to the beach with Calla and Strider. Annabeth was already there waiting for me. She lit up when she saw me coming. "I thought you had abandoned me!" She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes. There was something off about Annabeth, I noticed. Someone had told her something during breakfast. Or given her something. "Beth, are you okay," I asked. Annabeth sighed and sat down on the sand. She looked out over the water. "My dad sent me a letter," She said at last. I was not expecting that. Annabeth didn't have a good relationship with her mortal family. Sensing her feeling down, Strider walked over to her. Annabeth smiled and reached to pet him. "What did he say?" I asked carefully, sitting down next to her. Calla climbed down to my lap. "He wants me to come home. Fix things. He sent me his college ring. I-I think I'm going to try going home," Annabeth said. I looked at her and smiled. "That's very brave, Annabeth. I think you should do it," I told her honestly. Annabeth turned to look at me. "Really?" She asked, surprised. I nodded."We'll miss you a lot. But, I think it would do you good to try and make amends with your family. Maybe you'll get them to apologize for how they treated you. And if they don't then they will have to face me!" I announced, placing my hands on my hips like a superhero. Annabeth laughed at me."Thanks, Eliza. I'll do it. Now, what did you want to show me?" She asked excitedly. "Oh, yeah!" I said, shooting to my feet. Calla didn't like that. She hissed but backed off when she saw the look Strider was giving her. I closed my eyes and focused on the water in the air. It surrounded us at all times. Taking a deep break, I pulled the molecules towards me. "Woah," Annabeth breathed behind me. I smirked and opened my eyes. The water swirled around me. I lifted my arms, and it followed. I brought it above my head and spun it around. With a flick of my wrists, the water turned into daggers that I shot into the sky. I stopped my control on them, turning the daggers to rain. I grinned as the droplets fell on us, soaking Strider and Annabeth. I place my hand on Strider, sucking the water from him and drying him off. I let Annabeth stay wet. She turned to me. "Oh, I am going to get you!" ..."Remember, we are just a phone call away. Come home whenever you need to," Chiron told Annabeth. She nodded and turned to me and Luke. "I can't believe I'm really doing this," She admitted. I placed my hand on her shoulder. "You will be fine. And, like Papa said, you can come home whenever," I said, hugging her. "Yeah, have fun," Luke said, hugging her next. Taking a deep breath, Annabeth climbed onto the bus into the city. Luke and I watched the bus slowly fade into the distance. My mind suddenly started racing. What if she didn't come back? What if she forgot about us? What if I lost her? I started hyperventilating as I fell to the ground. My mind went fuzzy, but I felt Calla rub against me, and I saw Strider run away. "Liza, you're fine. You're safe. She won't abandon you." Chiron said, crouching down to my level. Thankfully, Dionysus and Strider appeared. "Hey, hey. Liza, you're alright. We're here. Annabeth will come back," He said in an oddly calming tone, pulling me onto his lap. I looked up at him. That was the first time he ever got Annabeth's name right. "Promise?" I asked weakly. Dionysus and Chiron nodded. "We swear on the river Styx, Annabeth will come back."
