Newt x Y/n, Part 1: The Glade

Chapter 5, "Show me what you're made of"

We met up with Frypan, he was the cook for the entire glade.

"Whatcha serving Fry?" I asked.

He handed me a piece of bacon and said,

"Try for yourself newbie".

I took it from him and thanked him. I took a bite. It tasted amazing!

"Wow! This is so good!"

"Glad you like it, enjoy the rest of your evening."

I gave him a smile. Chuck went to go hang out with a boy named Thomas. He was the new arrival last month. I hadn't had a chance to talk with him much but in the time I did, he seemed like a sweet boy.

Me and Newt were talking when all of a sudden I hear chanting,

"GALLY! GALLY! GALLY!" Some boys chanted.

"What the shuck is that?" I yelled at newt.

He laughed and said, "Hey! You're picking up glader slang, proud of you greenie!"

I smiled at him. He took my hand,

"Come on, I'll show you"

Newt walked me to a circle of boys, they were watching something in the middle of it. Me and Newt took a place in the circle and I saw what they were all looking at.

Gally was in the middle of the circle with a boy I had met earlier, Ben. It seemed like they were fighting, wrestling.

I have newt a confused and worried look.

"Don't worry," he reassured me, "this is allowed."

That didn't help much but I just watched. After 30 seconds passed, Gally gripped Ben by the legs and pushed him out of the circle, everyone cheered. I was still so very confused. And then we made eye contact.

"Oh look who it is! The girl who's got a mouth on her!" Gally said.

I wanted to give a snarky remark back but it wasn't gonna get me anywhere, I knew better so I just rolled my eyes.

Gally lifted up his hands by his side, and said,

"Wanna give it a try?" I tilted my head to the side.

"C'mon greenie, show me what you're made of."

I looked at Newt, he nodded to me. Chuck and Thomas has joined the circle.

I heard whispers around me,

"She won't beat him"
"She's too small and probably weak"
"Gally is unbeatable"

I rolled my eyes to this. I turned and said,

"You know, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean you should assume that I'm not strong. You know I bet that I could do anything you boys can do, maybe ever more."

The crowd went quiet. Newt gave a proud smile and Chuck gave me a thumbs up. There was this boy, Minho, he nodded his head in approval. I liked that guy, I didn't know him but he knew respect.

I looked at Gally, eye to eye.

"You like to make a point. I like that about you. Strong persona you got going there."

"Couldn't say the same thing about you Gally" I said with a grin. The boys laughed.

"Rules simple, whoever gets pushed out of the circle first loses and if it's not a push, it's whoever taps out. Try to last more than 5 seconds." he said with a wink.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. We made eye contact again and I gave him a nod.

He ran towards me and I moved out of the way.
