" NENE "Serenity sat in her math class, her mind drifting as the teacher explained a complex equation on the board. It had been a rough day for her already, with the memories of her mother resurfacing more strongly than usual. Her mom date of passing was only four months away, making eight years. As she tried to concentrate on the lesson, her basketball teammate Kiara leaned over from the desk behind her, whispering something under her breath. Serenity could sense a snicker in Kiara's voice, and her ears pricked up, curious about what was being said. She turned around, locking eyes with Kiara, who wore a mischievous grin.
"What's so funny, Kiara?" Serenity asked, her voice tinged with a touch of annoyance.
"Oh, nothing," Kiara replied nonchalantly, but her eyes sparkled with mischief. "Just wondering if your mom taught you how to shoot up those hoops too."
