"..." Look what we have 'ere."..."
"..." SHIT!"..."
"..." I'm Andrea, that's Dale, and you've already met Daryl and Merle."..."
"..." It's not like we're gonna do anything."...
"...Not all people are bad... Right?..."
NOW:
It's mandatory to eat dinner with everyone, apparently. So, when it was time to eat, I sat as close to Glenn and as far away from anyone else as I could, even if that meant I was shoulder to shoulder with him. He didn't seem to mind, he just gave me a small smile before turning to his plate of food.
Tonight we were eating venison from a deer and some mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes were a rare part of the meal. The guy named Shane found some when he went out on a "run", as they call it. When everyone got their food, we sat around the fire. Everything was going fine, I wasn't talking at all, just nodding, shrugging my shoulders, and shaking my head.
Everything went smoothly until...
"Glenn, Y/n?" We both turned to Andrea's little sister, Amy. "How long have you two been together?" She asked, making me spit up my water and Glenn nearly dropped his fork. "We are not dating! We're just friends!" Glenn said, his face bright red and his voice was slightly higher. "Right, Y/n?" He asked turning to me who was blushing darker than anything. I quickly nodded my head, "Yeah! We met like three days ago!" I say, making everyone turn to me, shocked that I said something. "Well, that's not true, we met last year in one of our college classes." Glenn corrected, "Yeah but we became friends three days ago." I say, turning to him. "Okay, true, but not true." Glenn argued, "Ehhh." I say childishly while sticking my tongue out at him, Glenn repeats it, mocking me.
"Y'all are bright red." T-Dog chuckled making everyone laugh softly. I sent him a glare and Glenn just rolled his eyes.
The dinner continued, but I didn't talk or pay attention. I was lost in my head again, which wasn't out of the ordinary, my ADHD tends to keep me in my head at times.
I did like Glenn, I think I've made it pretty clear why.
And it was kind of obvious that he liked me back, but of course, my insecurity and trauma of men trying to rape me tells me he didn't.
But the way he looks at me when he thinks I don't see him staring at me... Such admiration can not be faked.
The way he's so careful and protective of me... How he knows me so well after three days and a little more.
The way he can just read me like a book.
Just everything he does is adorable. And since I know he likes me, and tonight confirms it because of how flustered he was, I had the upper hand.
Dinner ended and some of the others chilled by the fire, the kids had a curfew, and I did not want to talk to strangers so I went back into our tent and changed into some of the clothes we packed.
Since Glenn and I wear about the same size in clothes, I purposely took his white long-sleeve shirt with blue sleeves and blue collars, it was kind of a V-neck but it was the masculine style, so not too revealing. It was a little baggy on me and went passed the middle of my thighs, slightly above my knees. I changed into shorts that went up almost halfway on my thighs, but not high enough to be considered booty shorts.
This is what my best friend did, took one of his tops and wore a short skirt. Since I'm not into skirts and absolutely HATE dresses and skirts, shorts were the better option. Just as I was about to grab my book, I heard the tent unzip. I turned to face Glenn. "Hey, pretty boy," I say casually, making Glenn blush slightly. "Uh... Hi," He said softly. "Is... Is that my shirt?" He asked, looking over at his open bag as he zipped the entrance shut. "Mhm," I hummed, making my way to lay down on the bed, pulling out one of the word searches that I had Glenn find for me and a pencil. "Why are you wearing my shirt?" He asked, letting out a soft, yet awkward laugh, sitting at the edge of the bed, beginning to pick out night clothes for himself. "It smells like you," I say, trying not to stutter as my confidence begins to falter. Glenn whipped his head to face me, I saw it in the corner of my eye. His face had gotten darker. He slowly looked away. "Uhm... Can you look away?" He awkwardly asked. "Sure," I say turning onto my stomach to continue working on my word search about cats and cat breeds.
When he was done, he got under the sheets and I set down the book and pencil and rolled over and curled up to him, making his body tense. "What are you doing?" His voice cracking as he spoke, "Cuddling you. Because you make me feel safe," I say, wrapping my arms around his torso.
On the outside, I looked and sounded confident and relaxed, but on the inside, my heart was pounding so hard against my chest that I almost worried that it would break through my fragile ribcage and out of my flesh while insecurity and anxiety rushed through my soul like adrenaline.
Glenn took a deep breath before wrapping his arms around me stiffly. I leaned my head on his chest, feeling his heart race. I looked up at him, he was looking at me, and quickly looked up at the roof of the tent. His heart sped up slightly. "Am I making you uncomfortable?" I asked softly. Glenn shook his head quickly. "No, I-- I just wasn't expecting it," He said quickly and kinda louder. "Shhhh. You're being too loud and people are trying to sleep," I hushed. "Sorry," He whispered. "It's okay," I giggled.
"Sweet dreams, Glenn," I say, closing my eyes. "Yeah... You too." He muttered, his arms starting to relax as he held me closer.
