CHAPTER NINE
Blood running cold, palms becoming sweaty, knees feeling weak, I stand directly before my ex. The man who single handedly destroyed my friendships, distorted my personality and physically and mentally abused me for years.
Jonathon.
I almost fell to the ground as I took in his appearance, desperately grasping at any idea that this wasn't real, that it was all some sick twisted joke my mind was playing on me.
His hair was still a dark red colour, however it had been cut into a short crew cut. It wasn't hard to notice his muscular, lean frame and the way he easily towered over me, reaching even taller than Ezra.
I was in complete awe. Not in admiration or intrigue, but in such that I was stood in front of someone that had confined themselves to only exist inside my memory.
It didn't take me long to catch a glimpse of his smug smirk before it was instantly replaced by a masked look of friendliness. The simple action sent an instant shiver up my spine, the past repeating itself slowly.
I stood still, watching carefully as he lifted up his sunglasses which covered his eyes. They held no surprise or confusion, looking at me like I was a little mouse ready to hunt. I knew then that he'd expected to run into me.
He was looking for me.
"Isabella." He finally said, in more of statement than a question. His deep voice radiated dominance, swiftly accompanied by the satisfied expression planted on his face.
The familiar voice struck me like an insult on my middle school playgrounds. It also seemed that this unfortunately brought the attention of the table, all eyes settling on me and the boy.
"What's going on? You know him?" Ezra asked meeting my eyes. In response I merely managed a slight nod.
"We're just old friends, I'm sure she'll be happy to explain all the details later." Unlike me, Jonathon provides my brother with a verbal response, earning a confused look from my brother.
I watched as Ezra's expression slightly relaxed, indicating he was satisfied with the boys answer.
This however very much differed from my other brothers expression as Liam had pushed the girl from off his lap, carefully watching Jonathon with a stone face."She can explain the details now." He said calmly, turning his gaze onto me.
I felt my stomach turn slightly as I looked at him, I had a million things to say yet I couldn't get one thing out. There were too many things to say. Too many.
I glanced at Jonathon for any indication of what to say. Was he aware my brothers would probably beat him to a pulp if I uncovered the truth right now?
I can't do this right now. I don't want to do this right now. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to do this.
"Iz?" Liam questions yet again sternly.
