| how do you know when to let go? |
"You asshole," Lori said through gritted teeth as she turns to Shane and tries to hit him.
Shit, what did she miss.
"Hey! Now look, first things first... I gotta... I gotta look after you. I gotta make sure the baby's all right, okay?"
Bea felt the awkward silence hit the group, funny how she knew before some of them.
"You're having a baby? Why didn't you tell me?" Carl asked slightly hurt.
Okay not so funny anymore. A sad Carl is not good, Bea decided.
Sensing the awkward silence and Carl's confusion, Dale signalled Lori inside to check up on her. Bea knew there was something else going on though, he was actually trying to get her away from Shane. Something unspoken in the air between the two men yet they had obviously had quite a few words.
However, Bea didn't follow everyone else inside, instead, she went to the RV and knocked on the door, hoping to talk to someone she hadn't yet met, not properly at least.
During her walk she did have a couple of small conversations with Dale and Andrea, nothing too deep, just general conversation with them asking how she was. She wanted to thank Rick, Hershel and Glenn, but they were yet to return.
Knock knock
"Who's there?" a voice called out.
"My name's Bea, I, I wanted to say hi," Bea waited for the door to open but she had no response.
"Ummm, I can come back another time, if-"
The door opened.
"No, it's fine, why don't you come on in."
Bea walked in and sat opposite Carol at the table.
"I just wanted to see how you were doing," Bea blurted out quickly, feeling nervous all of a sudden. Perhaps it was because she hadn't really thought of what to say.
Carol shook her head, face scrunched up in a way that showed she had no words in that moment.
"That walker you saw Shane take down, she lost her daughter too, my best friend. She's the reason that I got here alive, but she nearly didn't make it either. When she lost her husband and her daughter that could have been the end for her. I think, maybe, if I wasn't there, it would have been."
"What are you trying to say, Bea?" Carol frowned.
"Ruth, that was her name. She was strong, but you, you're stronger. Don't give up."
"You don't even know me."
"No, I don't, but, you shouldn't be on your own," Bea went to stand up. She had said her piece. Hopefully Carol wouldn't get to the same point Ruth nearly did.
"Oh, Carol?"
"Yeah?"
"Did Sophia like Jolly Ranchers?"
Carol was taken aback by the random question, trying to figure out where on Earth it came from.
"You, you saw the car on the highway didn't you?"
"Helped myself to some Cheetos, I left the other snacks there just in case."
Carol sat back thinking about Sophia, all the times they'd go shopping and she'd have to sneak sweets for her and tactically pack it before returning home and giving Ed his beer that he demanded.
This girl Bea, she was special, it was almost as if she already knew before asking.
Bea had gotten up to leave sensing Carol was done with the conversation, but she wasn't.
