The next afternoon you and the girls joined a very anxious Wendy in the quad.

Tolkien gallantly walked through the pillars like a valiant knight heading toward his princess. Clyde followed behind him carrying balloons and cupcakes. The girl for the school newspaper stood to the side ready to snap a photo.

"I know it's a little much but I wanted this to be a special memory." He said kissing her cheek.

He then handed her a big envelope. "Do you remember when we submitted our applications to Harvard in advance over the summer? Well, my dad knows the dean and he was able to send us an early response. I wanted us to open them at the same time."

Wendy quickly tore off the seal while Tolkien took his time. Her eyes scanned the paper for quite some time before meeting his cheerful gaze. She screamed and jumped into his arms. It appeared they both got the news they were expecting.

"AHHH! We got in! We both got in!"

She held Tolkien at arm's length, "This wasn't influenced or anything was it?"

He laughed gently, "No way honey, it was all you."

"Hey! What if I didn't get in? Then all his would've been so embarrassing..."

He held her hands in his, "I was never worried about that."

They both shared a kiss with their arms wrapped around each other.

Everyone was cheering and the energy was high but you felt a small presence that suggested otherwise. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Stan, mouth agape.

Kyle

Kyle spent the afternoon looking all around the building for his missing friend.

Usually, when Stan was feeling down he would turn to the goth kids, so he accosted the lankiest of the bunch, Michael.

"Where's Stan?"

Michael took a slow drag off his cigarette and gestured unenthusiastically at the bushes by the Community Center, "He's been in there all afternoon."

He rushed over to find a very messy Stan sprawled out between the branches.

"Kyle, it's Wendy she-she," he said in a drunken stupor.

"I know I heard."

Stan lazily held out his bloody palm.

"Kyle, I cut my hand on a thorn bush by accident. I can't look. Is it bad?"

"No dude, you'll live."

It was a good thing he was out in the daylight. His sense of smell was dulled making it easier to handle being around blood.

Stan would be even more queasy if he saw the wound. Kyle licked along the length of the cut, his saliva repairing the skin instantly. It was an ability he learned he had when Stan first found out he was a vampire.

...

At that time Kyle's fangs had just come in and his parents couldn't figure out why he suddenly couldn't keep any food down. He went to Stan's house to play the newest video game. Following the theme of the game they decided to become 'blood brothers' and each pricked the tip of their fingers. The boys both looked at Stan's finger in shock but not for the same reason.

Stan was feeling light-headed while Kyle was anything but. Instinctively he brought Stan's finger to his lips to taste it.

"Ew dude!" Stan had said. But it wasn't gross to Kyle. It was a taste he had been craving for a while now but wasn't quite sure what it was until then.
