Alex's POV

There was something comical about watching Asher pace around the room. He was muttering incoherent sentences while waving his hand excessively.

"I don't understand her. I bought her a ring and moved countries for her! And she didn't even tell me about what was going on!" exclaimed Asher in frustration. "She didn't even tell me she had a step-sister. How can she expect me to fully trust her if she's not being fully  honest with me?"

I pursed my lips and glanced at my watch. Still had three hours till lunch. Time had to go faster.

"Are you even listening Zan?!" I heard Asher shout.

I focused my attention back to him. He was now sitting in the chair in front of me. He had a deep frown on his forehead, his nose scrunched in annoyance.

"I zoned out. What did you say?"

He huffed and accusingly pointed his index finger at me. "See! You're not even listening to me!"

"Calm down Asher. I can't believe you're getting worked up over a girl like Jenna,"

He gasped and kicked my foot lightly. "What's that supposed to mean?"

I shook my head and rolled up the sleeves of my shirt. "Are we talking about the right Jenna? Cause I can't fathom how anyone could ever like a girl like her."

"You're over exaggerating. Once you get to know her, she's actually really sweet."

What a goof.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Whatever you say. Just keep her away from me."

"Oh right! Explain this whole thing with Jenna," he asked, crossing his right leg over his left.

"Explain what exactly?" I asked, prodding him to elaborate on his statement.

"You're marrying her?"

I let out an exasperated sigh. "My parents are trying to get me to marry her."

"Just say no!" He exclaimed ferociously.

"You don't think I've tried? They're pressuring me."

"You're freaking 26 Zan. You don't have to listen to your parents."

I scowled and stood up, running a hand through my hair. "Listen Asher. There's a lot that happened after you moved to Paris. You have no idea what I've been through and I don't expect you to ever understand."

He immediately stood up and looked at me with a worrisome expression. "What do you mean? What happened?"

I drew in a deep breath and shook my head. "After I said no to medical school and got accepted into law school, my parents cut me off."

"Cut you off? Like stopped giving you money?"

"Yes you idiot. That's what cutting off means," I muttered in annoyance.

"Geez alright I get it. What happened after that?"

I returned to my seat and popped a mint in my mouth. "They kicked me out of the house, turned all my siblings against me, and basically left me homeless until I changed my mind."
