Author's note: a warning that this will be a sad chapter to show the devastating effects of a world without Donghua, but they will be reunited soon and we can be back to happier times!

Donghua apparated to the Miao Hua mirrors, which only he was powerful enough to use and see the rise and fall of generations in the mortal realm.  He had once changed the mirrors to glimpse into the lives of immortals across the realms so that he could search for his spiritual fox.  He now transferred magic to the mirrors to change them to be able to see into the past life of immortals.

Except for sneaking out to comfort Prince Meng over some dead cricket, Xiaobai had remained by Donghua's side to train on the ice stakes in the days prior to the night they consummated their relationship. Because he had been...consumed by his desire for her, he had not questioned certain puzzling behavior, but now he recalled those moments. He had noticed a perceptible change in her personality the moment she was on top of him trying to daub the cotton rose ointment on his face.  She said things that did not make sense for her to know, such as her saying the exact words he would've used to advise her regarding the flute training.  He also recalled her saying that "I did kiss you but it was because I missed you so much."  They had spent whole days together prior to that point, and it didn't make sense for her to say such a thing.

He asked the mirrors to show him what had happened to Xiaobai leading up to the moment she first kissed him in case he had missed something important.

One mirror opened to show her lying on top of him, ready to apply the ointment on his face

One mirror opened to show her lying on top of him, ready to apply the ointment on his face.  Distracted as he was at that moment by her body, he did not see that a pink primordial spirit floated through the Tiangong Shield surrounding Xiaobai's body and vanished into her.  Only a spirit that had her or his essence could bypass the security measures of the Tiangong Shield.

Another mirror portal appeared, showing an image of Xiaobai sobbing, hugging the little lifeless body of a little fairy boy with silver hair like his. "Please Gungun, wake up for your mother. You can't die too. Please, my heart can't bear it."

Donghua's eyes furrowed with questions.  Xiaobai had a child? What happened to him? When did this happen? Who was the father?

Bai Yi, who was in in battle armor, hugged Xiaobai. The whole Bai family, including Zhe Yan, was also in armor and crying over the little boy. "Xiao Jiu, the demons will pay for this. Qingqiu will not rest until the demons are destroyed."

Tears fell from Donghua's eyes at Xiaobai's grief. It was clear she did not hear anything that her father had said. Donghua wanted to hold her as she continued to hug her son tight. "I love you, Gungun. Dijun would've protected you. I will change this."  The portal closed.
