Donghua looked up as Fengjiu opened the doors to his bedroom, holding the pimpon fruit awarded to her by Queen Junuo. She had spent the last hour celebrating and saying goodbye to her friends since Donghua had told her he would take her to Xie Guchou tomorrow to give the Lord of the Underworld the pimpon fruit and then return to the Nine Heavens.  She ran to his side on the bed and hugged him. "Dijun, do you think I'm awesome?"

"Incredible." He kissed her forehead.

Fengjiu sighed, but then noticed the serious look on his face. "Dijun, is something wrong? Why is your face so serious?"

"Xiaobai, can I ask you for a favor?"

"Of course." She touched his face, as if wanting to wipe away all of his concerns.

"You don't have to do it so don't force yourself. An evil spirit has been inhabiting Ji Heng's body and she tried to get Yan Chiwu to almost hurt you during the competition. I disabled her and drove the spirit out of her body. When she woke up, she asked me to give her the pimpon fruit because she heard from Queen Junuo that it would help with the Qiushui Cold Toxin, an ailment she has.  She is the daughter of one of my 72 generals and I gave him a promise as he died to protect her. She can treat the toxin if she remains in Fanyin Valley, so it is not required for her to get the fruit. I know how important the fruit is to you, but is it possible for you to give her part of the fruit?"

Fengjiu nibbled on her lip. "Isn't the evil spirit Miao Luo, the female demon that I fought the other day? I think she wants the pimpon fruit to generate a body and Ji Heng is still bewitched to give it to her."

Donghua tilted his head at her. "Xiaobai, how do you know this?"

Fengjiu bit her lip. "I—I noticed during the competition that Xiaoyan's eyes glowed red magic like Miao Luo. And I remember Meng Xiao listed the different ways the pimpon fruit can be used but treating the toxin was not one of them. I'm afraid she's going to give it to Miao Luo. And I can't let her get more powerful—she'll hurt you."

Fengjiu's eyes teared. Donghua wiped a tear from her eyes. "She can't hurt me, Xiaobai."

Fengjiu hugged him tight. Memories flooded of him injured because he grew weaker and weaker from his love for her while Miao Luo was able to grow stronger. She refused to give Miao Luo the opportunity to hurt him again.

"Xiaobai, are you ok?" Donghua asked, caressing her hair and back.

Fengjiu worried her lip again. "How about this? We can ask Queen Junuo to confirm if the fruit is a known cure for the toxin, and if so, I can give Ji Heng part of the fruit, provided she takes it while we watch her so she can't give it to Miao Luo but you have to make me a promise."

"Oh?" He asked, surprised at her last part of her request. He pulled back to look into her eyes.

"You have to promise that you will never transfer the toxin on to yourself no matter what request Ji Heng makes of you in the future. I heard that the toxin severely delays one's healing powers and your health is important to m—the Four Realms."

Fengjiu looked at him with such concern, he drew her close again and kissed her. Everyone in the world wanted his protection but only she wanted to protect him. "Xiaobai, why would I ever do that for Ji Heng?" Donghua asked.

"It's obvious she likes you and she has the benefit of your promise to her father. I'm afraid she'll ask for something in the future that will cause you to cure the toxin so you can be freed of the promise.  You need to be healthy.  You need to live. I couldn't bear it if you faded to nothingness.  Just promise me, please?"

Donghua caressed the tear that fell down her cheek.  "Xiaobai, I promise."

Fengjiu smiled and then faked a heavy sigh. "Drats. I should've asked for more."
