The night before the wedding....
Donghua smiled as he felt Fengjiu appear next to him in bed.  She had told him earlier today that it was Qingqiu's custom that the bride and groom be separated the night before the wedding and that she would sleep in the bridal chamber. He had begrudgingly accepted, even though everything in his body wanted to object.  He had become...quite attached to his little fox.

"Dijun, are you awake?" Fengjiu leaned over his shoulder and whispered into his ear.  Her breath on his ear was too much for Donghua, and he opened his eyes and flipped her onto her back.

"Xiaobai, are you here to take advantage of me?" He asked, gently kissing her neck in the direction of her ear, making her goosebump all over.

"Dijun, behave," Fengjiu ordered, framing his face so he would stop driving her crazy. He just proceeded to place kisses on her palm.

"But I've missed you," he murmured between kisses. Fengjiu melted and started to tear.  He stopped and looked at her with concern. "Xiaobai, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I've missed you too, and I wanted to stay away but I can't sleep without you anymore! Do you think I'm being so weak not being able to stay away for just one night? What kind of queen of Qingqiu am I? This is so embarrassing!" Fengjiu pulled his head down and started crying into the crook of his neck.

Donghua moved them so she was now lying on top of him. He made reassuring noises and petted her hair. "Well...didn't we spend the night apart the night before our wedding in the other timeline and I died. So I think you're just being prudent doing something different to ensure a different result."

Fengjiu lifted her head to look at him. "You think so?"

"I know so." He said in his authoritative way that brooked no disagreement.

She smiled but then pouted, "You don't think I'm being too clingy?" Her eyes starting to fill with tears again.

Donghua paused to think.  She had been as attached to him as he had been to her these last couple of weeks leading up to the wedding. After he had told her that she was pregnant, they had visited her parents the next morning so that Donghua could ask her parents to marry her.  He told them that he had fallen in love with Fengjiu, and though he couldn't predict the future, he promised that as long as they were married, he would do whatever Fengjiu decided. And also, he confessed that the matter was urgent because there was a little fox along the way.

All three Bai looked at him in shock, and Fengjiu turned red as her fur. Bai Yi had initially been concerned about what kind of life Donghua could give Fengjiu, but with the news of a little grandchild, he agreed to the marriage. Fengjiu later told Donghua she was not pleased that he had told her parents about their baby fox, but she was sensible and agreed that it had been the best way to get her father's expedited approval and have the wedding be held within 10 days.

While Zhonglin and her mother had done the preparations for the wedding, he and Fengjiu spent the days recuperating in Bihai Cangling. It had been a wonderful two weeks and they had not spent any moment apart, let alone a whole night.  It was only natural that he and his little Xiaobai would feel bereft without the other.  So he disagreed that she was being too clingy, because that would also make him too clingy, and how can a God as powerful as he be considered too clingy?

"I am the Supreme God of the Four Realms and Eight Deserts, and it is my decree that you are always just the perfect amount of clingy." He said warmly, caressing her nose.

Fengjiu laughed, leaned down and gave him a sweet kiss before hugging him tightly, mumbling into his chest.  "I'll be a little clingy now then."

Donghua's deep laughter filled the room, and he proceeded to cling to her more than a little.

The wedding......
Fengjiu had kept the wedding simple, as she just wanted the day to be surrounded by their friends and family. Fengjiu was dressed in purple dress that floated around her with a wreath of Anchan flowers that Donghua had placed on her head. Donghua had made a path of Foling petals with the flowers floating around them as they walked down the aisle to bow to the heavens, her parents and each other.

It was a day full of happiness for their guests, aided by Zheyan's best peach blossom wine (though Donghua made sure Fengjiu drank mostly water since he wanted her clearheaded for their wedding night) and Fengjiu's sorrowless cakes, allowing guests to see their fantasies.

Fengjiu wanted to cry multiple times throughout the day. Her aunt had told Donghua he would have to answer to the Bai family if he were to ever make Fengjiu sad, and all her uncles, including Yehua, and little A-li stared ferociously at Donghua. Meng Xiao, who had also survived in this timeline, told her he had been able to leave Fanyin Valley and meet the love of his life, the third princess of the West Sea. Yan Chiwu, the brute demon, had taken a liking to mortal plays in his recent travels to the mortal realm and spent his days reading more than he had ever in his existence.

Mo Ye had also attended to Fengjiu's surprise since they wouldn't have interacted in this timeline. Donghua had told Fengjiu that during the two weeks they had been apart, he had shown Mo Ye what had happened to Aranya so that Mo Ye could have some peace about Aranya's death and asked Mo Ye to enter the Dream so that he could give peace to their shadows. Mo Ye told them that he had shown Shen Ye through a small Miao Hua mirror that he and Aranya were shadows and that Shen Ye should take this iteration to live the Dream as he wished he had acted when Aranya was alive. Shen Ye had promised to cherish the primordial spirit of Aranya.

And Donghua had made the spiritual birds dance the Homage to the Phoenix. Fengjiu was moved to tears. Donghua promised her they would dance for her every month and that he would behave himself so that she could enjoy the dance. She promised that she would give him a dance in return.

As the festivities turned into the night, Donghua made the Yueling flowers bloom under the full moon. As everyone was enthralled with the fleeting beauty of the fluorescent flowers, Fengjiu realized he wanted to show her that the Yueling flowers could finally have their chance to meet their beloved moon.  He had pulled her close and whispered his vow that for all his eternities, they would never be apart. And yes, she was the most awesome being he's ever known.
