Eren laid his back staring at the slow spinning ceiling fan in his living room. Going back to the penthouse would obviously make it too difficult to leave again so he went for his safe house in the suburbs.

Hange slowly stitched his wound shut, carefully shoving the needle through his skin. The tv rambled on and on in front of them.

"The police are investigating a series of shootouts that have taken place downtown. Leading to several fatal casualties and accidents on the I-78 expressway. Everyone is advised to stay home as the chief of police says that they still don't know who could've caused it or if this is truly the end of it."

The cameras of the helicopters flying over the expressway showed smoke and fires everywhere, beat up cars and people crawling and reaching out for help. Red and blue flashing lights dotted the streets, firefighters everywhere.

Word came back that all the decoys Eren had leave out of a separate garage door had made it...except one. Shot in the neck and crashing off of his bike. He flew into the window of a store and died on impact.

Eren hadn't had much to say since his meeting with Levi. It was all a lot to process, too much if you asked him. He only really grew quiet like this when there was too much on his mind, he had nowhere else to put it.

Hange shifted her glasses up to get a better view of the stitch she needed to snip. "...At least you made it outta all that with just a graze. I dunno how you always end up so lucky."

"Luck?" He lightly scoffed eyes drifting to the damage he caused on the television, "Is that what you'd call it?" His voice was too low & deep with defeat that his witty rhetorical question only came off as sad.

Hange furrowed her brows looking at his crushed expression. While Eren could hold a straight face for days, it was his eyes that couldn't lie.

"Well.. yeah," She shrugged a shoulder, answering anyway. "One of those people could've been you out there."

"It probably should've been."

"No, no, no. None of that." She pushed her glasses up her nose." You didn't cause this. Your enemies did. If anything, it should've been them instead, it's not like you asked for this to happen."

"Maybe not but that doesn't make me feel any less responsible..." His eyes scared the death toll on tv. "People died today, Hange... like a lot."

She rolled her eyes, dabbing the stitched wound with sort sort of liquid on a cotton ball. "You've killed more people on purpose than you have by accident."

"But the fact that there is a ratio of that to begin with is just..." He sighed watching the smoke blaze up across a distant shot of the city. "Imagine how many kids were waiting on their parents to come home today and now that's just not gonna happen."

"Well..." She slowly circled some gauze around his arm, "...imagine how we'd feel if you didn't either."

And as if on queue, the thought of you crying and breaking down to your knees as Levi broke the news to all of your friends at Jean's bar came to mind.

Your swollen puffy eyes pushing out whatever's left as his casket got lowered into the ground. The heartbreak it would leave all of you with tugged at his heartstrings.
