Colin: I’m here

Riley: be right down

The door opens and he stares at her.

“What?” She asks, self conscience.

“You look amazing.”

“It’s my war outfit.”

“Didn’t you wear that on the first day of school?”

“I can’t believe you remember that. School is a war.”

“Your outfits are like costumes. They’re easy to remember.”

“Mini redoes our closets every year. I fell in love with gothic freshman year. Evidently, there’s a lot of glovelettes currently in fashion. This one was handmade by Mini, though.”

“That’s pretty cool. Are we going into your house soon?”

Riley laughs and moves to the side so Colin can walk by. He sits at the breakfast bar.

“Where is everyone?”

“Waiting on Ney to shower.”

He lifts an eyebrow.

“Her words, ‘this bisexual can’t handle showering with so many hot girls’.”

“Ney’s bi? I have no gaydar.”

“I have an okay gaydar. My anything else dar is terrible. I had no idea until she confessed to me in 9th grade.”

“Confessed? As in her interest in you?”

“Yeah.” Riley says, getting out a bunch of juice boxes. “Made me a nightstand with a poem on it. ’Bubblegum pop just isn’t my style, But it sings in my heart every time that you smile’.”

“Nice.” Colin says, nodding.

“Sorry. Maybe not the thing to tell my first boyfriend.”

“I’m fine. I mean a bit jealous that I could have met you and you be dating. But you weren't so I’m glad. What happened?”

“We tried to date for a while but I wasn’t interested. So she broke up with me.”

“I’d never break up with you.”

“You can’t promise that. We haven’t even been on a date yet.”

“I’m simply not the break up type. If we end, you’ll have to break it off.”

“I’ll keep it in mind.” She says, looking at her phone as it chimes. “Oh, my goodness, they are here.”

Colin sees that she’s about to panic so he slides the note across the counter. Riley takes it with a grimace that’s trying to be a smile.

Colin takes her hand and leads her to the door. She opens it and smiles a true smile at her friends.

“Can I hug you?” Ney asks.

“Sure.” Riley replies, letting go of Colin’s hand.

They hug and after a minute, everyone else joins in. Riley starts to tear up and when she sniffles, the group breaks apart.

“I’ve missed you guys.”

“Are you allowed to say that when there’s only 2 guys in the group?” Pasta asks.

“Three, now.” Jules says, looking at Cole.

There’s a rumble of agreement.

“This doesn’t seem like a pouch conversation.” Mini says.
