Chapter 20
RECAP
I hopped out of the shower whistling a tune as I dried off and got dressed. I walked out into the kitchen but I didn’t see Anna.
“Anna? You there?” I waited but she didn’t answer. Panic was rising in me as I realized that she wasn’t in the dorm. I spotted something on the counter.
‘Gone for a drive, don’t know when I’ll be back. Love you, Anna’
I reached for my phone and dialed Max. He picked up on the second ring
‘Hey man. What’s up?’
‘Anna. She’s gone she used the phrase Max.’
‘AW CRAP! I’ll grab Em and we will be over in a minute.’ I hung up the phone and looked down at the piece of paper in my hand.
Oh Anna. Where are you?

Annas POV
I felt the car stop and someone get out on the passenger side. The bag was still over my head and my hands were bound together. I heard the door next to me open and a pair of soft, small hands wrapped around my arm. The person, I’m guessing a woman, pulled me out of the car and pushed me forward. I heard another door open in front of me. I felt the warmth of the sun leave as I was lead down a flight of stairs and into a dark room. The air was thick and damp. My heart started beating faster as I was led further into the building. The person guiding me sat me down in a chair and tied my arms and legs to it so I couldn’t escape. I hissed in pain as the ropes were pulled tighter and the rough fibers rubbed against my skin. Without warning the bag was pulled off my head. I blinked rapidly allowing my eyes to adjust to the light. I tried to take in my surrounding but I couldn’t see outside the circle of light I was sitting in. It was like a bad mob movie. I heard the sounds of heels clacking against the floor as someone walked towards me.
“Who are you?!” I demanded. The outline of a woman trembled as she chuckled a deep, wicked laugh. She waited and all was silent for a tense moment. The figure moved forward and stepped into the light. My body went cold. If I didn’t hear it beating rapidly in my ears, I would have thought my heart had stopped beating.
“Hello dear. Mommy’s home.” She laughed darkly. My mother was standing in front of me. The woman who had screwed me up so badly I couldn’t trust anyone. The woman who haunted me in my dreams.
I swallowed my sobs and suppressed the body-wracking tremors as my body tried to release its fear.
“Is something wrong sweetheart? Aren’t you happy to see me?” She walked around behind me and hugged my shoulders. “Because I’ve been dying to see you.” I felt it them. The sharp, cold edge placed against my skin. I looked down at my arm as she slashed open my bicep. I cried out in pain and the tears were let free.
I looked into the face of my attacker. I saw the same sinister lint in her eyes and the same twisted grin on her face. She enjoyed my pain.
“What do you want from me?!” I cried. Her face darkened and her hand flashed out from her side and slapped across my face.
“What do I want? I want my husband back! I want the wonderful life we would have had! I don’t want you! I never wanted you! It was your father who wanted kids, not me! And then he left me!” She took the knife up in her hand and slashed it across my cheek. I felt my blood spill out of the shallow gash. It would stop bleeding in a few minutes but I knew that if she kept this up I would have lost too much blood by the end of the day.
She threw down the knife and walked away. She came back from the edge of the circle with bandages in her hands. I felt my face contort into a mask of shock and confusion.
“What> You didn’t think I would let you bleed out and leave me without a source of entertainment did you?”
I cringed away from her touch as she cleaned and bandaged the gashes she had mad just minutes before.
“There. All better. Now...It’s my bedtime but I’ll see you in the morning. Good night dear. It’s wonderful to have you back home with me.” She kissed my head and chuckled when I cringed. She walked out of the light. I heard her go up the flight of stairs and open a door.
The lights flicked off and I was submerged into complete darkness. I looked down but couldn’t make out any sort of shape. I felt a silent tear drop down my cheek as I cried. I had trained to fight and I had told myself I would never be her victim again. But then I saw her face and I froze.
I was alone, cold, hungry, and hurt but at least Jack, Max and Emily were safe back in the dorms.
Jacks POV
My phone vibrated letting me know I had gotten a text. I flipped open my phone and turned on the screen.
*If you want to see her alive come to 212 Maple St. London by 2 pm. tomorrow with 2 million dollars or she dies* I gasped and ran to find the others.
“I got a text.” I said.
Emily and Max looked at me. I showed them the text and as Emily cried into Max’s shoulder I went to figure out how I was going to get 2 million dollars together by tomorrow.
Don’t worry Anna. I’m coming. One way or another...
