his hand was big, and i could feel its roughness against mine. as we held hands, my fingers grazed over a cold metal ring on one of his fingers. i was initially confused, trying to process what had just happened, but as we walked hand in hand through the hallway, a blush started creeping onto my cheeks.
we didn't exchange a word until we reached his car. san opened the back door for me, and i settled into the backseat beside him. before long, exhaustion washed over me, and i dozed off in no time.
i woke up to the sound of san calling my name, "wooyoung, wake up. we're here." i rubbed my eyes and glanced out the window in confusion; the neighborhood didn't look familiar.
"you forgot to give me your address," san said, avoiding eye contact. i got up, feeling a mix of confusion and shock. i reached for my phone and unlocked it. it was 16:22, and i had a bunch of messages from my mom. "why didn't you wake me up, san? my mom must've been so worried!" i exclaimed. "you looked tired so i didn't wanna bother you," san nonchalantly defended himself, tilting his head back against the seat, arms folded across his chest.
"okay, well thanks to you, i'm gonna have to take the bus back in this weather," i said, evidently annoyed. san glanced at me, his head slightly tilted, and responded, "what? no, it's not safe. you're staying for the night."
i furrowed my eyes in confusion, "what? wait, wasn't the driver going to take me home anyway? can't you ask him to drop me off?" san rolled his eyes, "wooyoung, isn't your house really far from here? look at how heavy the rain is. we could barely see anything on the way here," san said, sounding a bit angry. he grabbed my wrist and said, "you're staying. come." i sighed in frustration.
"no, san. it's fine. i don't wanna be a bother. i'll just take the bus," i said while reaching for the door handle. but suddenly, san reached over and stopped my hand. "stop it, wooyoung. you're really pissing me off now. it's fine, you can stay. nobody else is home, so you're not bothering anyone or anything," he said. why is he getting so mad all of a sudden? i couldn't understand if he was being nice or not. his words and intentions seemed contradictory.
he sighed when he noticed my upset expression and continued, "listen, i don't feel good about making you leave like this. it isn't safe for you to go. i know it's my fault, so i'm sorry. but let's go in now. no more arguments." i rolled my eyes and gave up when i noticed the increasing frustration written all over his face. without wasting any more time, i quickly sent a message to my mom, explaining the situation.
san grabbed an umbrella from his car and held it over both of us as we headed towards the front door. as we reached at the entrance, i noticed that the right side of his body was completely drenched. "you should change quickly, or you'll catch a cold," i said, pouting slightly as a mix of shyness and annoyance still lingered. "i don't catch colds," san replied. oh my god, why is he so stubborn?
the house felt eerie and dimly lit due to the gloomy weather outside. i followed san up the marble staircase. we walked down the hallway to his room, and before entering, san quietly checked airi's room to make sure she was asleep, which she was. he gestured for me to be quiet and closed the door behind him.
we then entered his room, which was unusually cold, causing me to shiver. suddenly, san took hold of my arm and asked, "thunder or cold?" with a concerned expression on his face. it was adorable. i chuckled and replied, "a little cold."
"wait here. let me grab you some fresh clothes before i take a shower," san said. he handed me a gray hoodie and gray sweatpants before heading into the bathroom attached to his room. he showed me the other bathroom out in the hallway, and i quickly showered and changed there. the clothes were oversized and comfortable. the hoodie even had a hint of san's cologne.
i returned to his room and settled on the bed, absentmindedly scrolling through my phone, unsure of what to do, until san appeared from the bathroom. with a click sound, the door opened, and he stepped out, drying his damp hair with a towel. he wore a dark blue hoodie and comfortable gray sweatpants, but what caught my attention was the flush on his face.
for a moment, he stood frozen, his gaze fixed on the floor before he let out a loud sneeze. startled, his eyes darted up to meet mine. reacting instinctively, i leapt up from the bed and exclaimed, "oh my god, i told you you'd get sick!"
