the shrill sound of the school bell pierced through the chatter, signaling the end of the day. i couldn't believe my luck—of all people, the teacher had chosen him as my partner. all i wanted to do was hurry home and crash into a deep nap.
bathed in the warm afternoon sunlight streaming through the windows, i hastily gathered my belongings and made my way towards the exit. just as i was about to leave the classroom, i heard a raspy voice i vaguely recognized call out my name.
"wooyoung."
i turned around to find san, his disheveled hair and heavy-lidded eyes making it seem like he had just woken up from a nap. his partially unbuttoned white school shirt revealed a glimpse of his well-toned chest, and his loosely hanging tie added to his laid-back appearance.
my heart skipped a beat as i looked at him, his dark and mysterious aura sending a chill down my spine. now, what did he want from me? i quickly responded, "um, yeah?"
without saying another word, san slung his backpack over his shoulder and started walking towards me. leaning against the door frame, i watched as he drew nearer until he stood right in front of me. the once bustling corridor had transformed into a tranquil space. the gentle afternoon breeze whispered against the windows, carrying faint echoes of students' laughter and chatter as they headed home. the soothing chirping of crickets outside added a peaceful ambiance to the silence that enveloped us.
as i gazed at the boy before me, he leaned in, causing my breath to hitch. i felt bewildered as his hand slipped into my pocket, retrieving my phone. a jolt ran through my body at his unexpected touch.
"what are you doing?" i blurted out, reaching out to grab my phone out of his hands. san's gaze bore into mine, holding my phone against his chest as if it were a precious treasure. his cologne wafted through the air, and the warmth radiating from his body stirred my senses. my heart raced, and my palms grew damp under his unwavering stare.
he unlocked my phone and started typing something. "what do u think i'm doing?" san replied, his gaze fixed on my phone, his voice carrying a low and gravelly tone. "don't be late," he continued, raising his eyes to meet mine.
he returned my phone, and our fingers brushed against each other, igniting a surge of electricity through my body. his touch felt like fire.
san lingered for a moment, his eyes scanning me up and down before he turned and walked away, gradually disappearing from view as he rounded the corner.
glancing down at my phone, i saw an address typed out—4845 granite street—and felt a surge of annoyance and intrigue. why did it have to be him? why did he become my group partner? you know what, i'll just work on the project myself. san would probably thank me for that. i'll text him, letting him know i can't make it or something. sleep is more important anyway.
but... what if he gets mad?
ugh, who cares? he's an asshole. what he did to that girl today was totally unacceptable! on top of that, he didn't even ask if i could make it or ask permission to enter his address into my phone, which proves that he has no respect for others!
a sudden surge of anger and frustration washed over me. i wished i had the courage to confront him right then and there, to put him in his place.
looking down at my phone, it suddenly struck me that he hadn't shared his phone number with me. this was just great; if i didn't show up without any notice, he'd get even more mad. what if he ended up embarrassing me in front of the entire class tomorrow? yeah, no thanks, that's the absolute last thing i wanted to experience.
i couldn't believe i had already failed my first mission.
