Brooklyn POV
I was waiting in the line for the tickets. We decided we were going to watch Insidious Chapter 3.August was in the bathroom. He gave me the money to pay for the tickets. I went up to the booth. The boy looked at me and smiled."How can I help you sweetheart?"
"Yeah can I have 2 tickets for Insidious."
"Can i see ID?" he asked already printing out the tickets. I handed him my ID. "Oh Brooklyn. That's where I'm from."
"Well my name is Brooklyn and I'm from Brooklyn too." I said smiling.
"Is that why your mother named you Brooklyn?" He asked handing me my ID.
"Yeah. She did that for all my siblings. My brother was born in Boston and his name is Boston."
"That's cute."
"Thank you."
He looked both ways before leaning towards me. "I'll pay for one of your tickets... $11." he said smiling.
"Thank you." I smiled back. I have to admit. This n!gga was cute.
"Can I have your number?" he asked handing me a piece of paper.
I wrote my number on the paper. "Call me whenever." I said walking away. August was looking at me. "What?"
"So you give him your number but I had to track your sister down to get yours? That's lame asf."
I walked over to the movies. I waited for August once again. This time he was getting this other girl number. He thinks that I was going to get mad, but I'm not. My phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out my pocket. It was an unknown number.
Hey Brooklyn from Brooklyn. he wrote. I smiled.
Hi.
Because you never asked my name is Joey. I silently laughed to myself.
August tapped my shoulder. "Can you come on?" he asked. I rolled my eyes and went into the movie theater.
After the movie, when went into the nearest restaurant. It was a burger restaurant. I ordered a regular burger while August got a burger with everything on it. I sat down in a booth. August then slides his self next to me.
"This date didn't go as expected." he said biting into his sandwich.
"I went how I expected. I told you we didn't to be together."
He sighed. "Look, I'mma say this to you because it feels really weird. I think I may have feelings for you Ma."
I sighed. "What did I tell you about calling me Ma?"
He slid towards me. "Look, when I say this to you, its because I never felt this way for anyone. It's something serious."
I sighed. "Do you know that you're not the only one who said that to me? And the person that did it broke my heart. Among other things?"
"What do you mean other things?"
I bit into my sandwich. "Nvm."
"Was it Damien? Is he why you are so broken off from society?"
"I don't wanna talk about it." I mumbled.
He looked around the restaurant. He called over a waitress. He handed her a $50 bill. He stood up after she left. "Come on." He mumbled.
I got up and walked out with him. It was now dark as I don't know what outside. And it was cold. I rubbed my arms on my shoulders. August looked at me. My phone vibrated in my pocket. It was Joey. But I didn't feel like answering him. I looked at August. He was on the phone.I turned around to face the fountain. It was the only thing giving off a lot of light. I sat on the edge of the fountain. August sat next to me.
He held onto my hand. "You know you can talk to me right? Just because I seem like I don't keep secrets, I do."
"It's not a secret. I just don't wanna relive it." I finally admitted.
He stared at me. "Look I just wanna look out for you. It seems like it all starts when somebody mentions Damien. Please Brooklyn.. Tell me what happened between you and him."
"August I told you I don't wanna talk about it." I said getting up and walking towards the way home.
"You can't walk home." he yelled.
"Watch me." I said walking still. I was near the park when I hit something and fell. I started to cry. I felt someone on my shoulders. I looked at the person. Well I couldn't see them.
"Brooklyn," I heard a thick southern accent say. "I'm sorry that I kept bothering you about that." He picked me up. I tried to walk on my foot but it hurt so bad. "Oh you hurt Ma?" I rolled my eyes and huffed.
"No n!gga." I said trying to walk again. I started to tear up. August came up behind me and tapped my shoulder.
"Just hold on Ma. My mother is coming." He walked me over to the nearest bench.
"Stop calling me ma." I said after a minute of silence.
"Look what do you want me to call you?"
"Brooklyn. That is my f*cking name!" I semi-shouted.
His mother pulled up. We got in the car. "Can you drive me to the hospital?" I asked. She looked at me.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I just hurt." I said.
She drove me to the hospital. "Yall can leave if you want?" I said when the nurse called me back.
"Nah. I'll stay." August said coming up to me .He helped me stand up. We got into the hospital room. The doctor then took me to the x-ray room. He took x-rays of my foot and then took me back to the room. When I came back, August's mother wasn't in the room. August was still sitting there. He smiled when he saw me. "Hey." he said getting up and helping me into the bed.
"Where's your mother?" I asked wincing in pain.
"She went out to get you real food. You know since hospital food is fake.'" he laughed. Then I started laughing. That's when he came in the room. The one I didn't expect to come. The boy who hurt me in so many ways. Damien.
Damien in the mm.
